    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Exactly. What I really care about is more capacity - whether that be road or rail. Both are desperately needed along the M4. J28-J29 for example is projected to be at 116% of operational capacity by 2035, and the entire section between J23 and J29 is 'red' based on the 2013 proposal...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I really have no idea what is going on. 1) Millions spent on consultation and design of M4 bypass 2) M4 bypass cancelled, more consultation announced in the form of the 'South East Wales Transport Commission' 3) 'SEWTC' recommends building new stations on the SWML 4) WG accepts those...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I'm a bit lost with the cardiff east etc situation. i thought these were being funded instead of m4 bypass, but now that article says they are waiting for UKG funding?

    Huge usage of splitting

I was on a peak service from CDF to PAD, it seemed every passenger near me had a split at Swindon (could see on their phones when tickets were getting checked to Swindon, and the multiple scans of the tickets going on). I used to be the only person with a split. I've never seen so many people...

Passenger numbers heading into spring ‘24

Is there a link to national numbers? I can't find it from a google. I think there was a fairly regularly updated snapshot?

    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

Another trip and still only L2100 10MHz on o2 in liz line stations. Are other networks setup for better configurations than this? I cannot understand why they would put new radios in then only enable L2100?! Surely L2300 or L2600 could be enabled, or is this not supported by the cabling? I do...

    Cardiff to Bristol airport buses

I was reading that Bristol airport has hit record passenger numbers. However, public transport access from Cardiff/South Wales is pretty poor. You either have a train + bus combo which involves a fairly annoying change, or National Express. The National Express service is decent, taking just...

    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

Used it in EL stations for the first time today and it was useless on O2. 10MHz of L2100, nothing would load. Did get an incoming WhatsApp but outbound couldn't send. Hugely underwhelming after all this time!

Is the section of gwml beteen Paddington and reading the worst maintained line in the country?

On any other line that'd be my first thought, less so with this one...

Is the section of gwml beteen Paddington and reading the worst maintained line in the country?

Interesting. So poor maintenance? I'm pretty startled we could hit something like that. Apparently caused damage to the front of the train but could have been a lot worse.

Is the section of gwml beteen Paddington and reading the worst maintained line in the country?

On 1B36, hit something before Swindon and stopped. Started moving again shortly after before stopping at Swindon. Saw the staff looking at the train so asked what did we hit and they said a block of concrete that must have fell from a bridge (don't know if maliciously?). Anyway on the move...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

It is in Schengen though, and I pointed out this could be a Norway peculiarity.

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

Yes, and also even if we stayed in the EU there was always signs that more checks could be added to trains - as you saw on trains between Sweden and Denmark with the refugee crisis. It was completely dumb to have StP be so constrained on space. It allows absolutely no flexibility in case of...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

I think you are thinking way too much into this. Eurostar passenger numbers have recovered to pre covid/pre brexit numbers. They will continue to grow, especially if new entrants actually get going. There will be an awkward summer for EES processing, both at airports and eurostar. After that...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

No - it doesn't apply to EU citizens, and I assume EEA/Swiss (who have full freedom of movement rights). The EES exists because it is actually very difficult AFIAK for the EU to know who is actually overstaying the 90 in 180 limit. As far as I'm aware, there is no way for a border officer in eg...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

I agree, far too much emphasis being put on brexit when in reality StP was a poor design for the number of passengers. Even if we had stayed in the EU there would have been limited scope to run more peak time services to eg Frankfurt if DB had wanted to because of space constraints. It was...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

Yes this would be the sensible thing for the EU/France to do.
  18. M

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

You're getting mixed up. I think you mean ETIAS, not EES. We are bringing in our own version of that, but there is no plan to bring in exit checks along the lines of EES (every airport would have to be completely redesigned for one). EES and ETIAS while.happening at the similar (but not same)...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

This is really a one time thing. While it will be painful at the introduction; it will AFIAK enable access for non-EU citizens to use egates (the EU is in the dark ages with this only-eu-citizens-can-use-egates approach). This could potentially massively increase capacity at StP etc as you could...

Used 16-17 instead of 16-25 railcard

I totally agree with your sentiments, but what makes it difference is the threat of court action if you get it wrong. It's a completely disproportionate response. It would be like Ryanair taking you to court if you selected a 10kg bag instead of 20kg, you got it there and it weighed 15kg...
