TPE Nova 3 (Class 68 + Mk5s) updates and withdrawal from service

I just got my information from the Trainline website which puts Bristol-Weymouth at 58 miles so they've obviously lost 30 miles somewhere

TPE Nova 3 (Class 68 + Mk5s) updates and withdrawal from service

I'm interested to know why trains travelling the 42 miles between York and Scarborough are often described as 'shuttles'. Are trains which cover similar distances, ie from London to Brighton, Manchester to Blackpool, etc also called shuttles? Bristol to Weymouth is slightly longer - is that a...

Noisiest locos, DMU, EMU past and present

Know what you mean! I live about a couple of miles from Malton station and hear every service, but the 22.25 seems to stand out more than most

    Yorkshire's railways - a map

There were never any local passenger services between Settrington and Amotherby. The only through trains on this route were goods services carrying stone from Burdale Quarries, north to Teesside, and occasional summer Saturday services in the 50/60s from NE England to Butlins at Filey. All of...

Stations with just one platform...that could really do with two

The trolley crossing at Malton would’ve been a health and safety impossibility today!

    Transpennine Express December 2019 Proposals

Proposals to spend £300k extending the useable platform at Malton should help timings on the Scarborough line marginally. Currently not all doors are opened on the new trains when arriving from York, so added delay is caused as people onboard have to move forward in order to get off

Have TPE finally given up on the Scarborough service

I’m so pleased I decided not to renew my Malton-Leeds season ticket at the end of November. So far, the drive down the A64 has been a breeze compared to using this appalling service. I might reconsider renewing next year sometime if they show any sign of running the published timetable service...

Have TPE finally given up on the Scarborough service

I agree with others. I’m not interested in TPE’s reasons for their operational incompetence. I just want them to provide the advertised service. My £3,248 Malton/Leeds season ticket runs out this weekend, and there’s no way I’m renewing it. I’m back in the car on Monday, sharing the drive with a...

Have TPE finally given up on the Scarborough service

As a mere fare payer, of a season ticket from Malton to Leeds that costs well over 3 grand, I don’t understand all the reasons behind the daily failure of this appalling service. All I know is, I never know when or if I’ll get to work, or when or if I’ll get home. I don’t expect to sit down on...

Recent Transpennine Express problems: What could be done to solve them?

Of course there is a plus side to wasting hours waiting for trains that are late or don’t arrive on the York/Scarborough service, I’ve probably only paid for about 25% of my fares thanks to delay repay.

Recent Transpennine Express problems: What could be done to solve them?

Another disrupted day yesterday. Cancellations from Scarborough included 08.45, 16.44 and 17.44, meaning there was a 3 hour service gap between the 15.44 and the 18.44. Appalling service - my journey from Malton to Leeds was an hour late in each direction, after both my booked trains were cancelled.

    Northern Dec 2019 Timetable Bid

A good example of the current useless TPE service is today. The service gap between Malton and Scarborough was just short of 3 hours (06.48 and 09.45). This was down to a cancellation followed by a late running service. For people like me relying on the service to get to work in Scarborough, a...

    Northern Dec 2019 Timetable Bid

https://www.minsterfm.com/news/local/2971687/new-train-service-for-malton-and-norton-delayed/ Now being officially reported that the new York-Malton-Scarborough Northern service has been postponed until next year. This will be a disappointment to regular users like me who can face service gaps...

What preserved railway extension would you most like to see?

All sorts of reasons why reinstatement will never happen, even though the old route is across flat ground. There’s no capacity at Malton to accommodate the terminus (Asda sits on the former Whitby bay). There’s no local political will - Pickering is dead on its feet without the NYMR - so it’s...
