    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I guess the reason as usual is money. There is a low bridge at the west (Rhymney) end of the station which would be expensive to deal with, so the wires will start immediately beyond the bridge.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I cannot see Ynyswen opening in summer 2024. When I was there last week very little progress had been made apart from reinstating the second track. A second platform, footbridge and lifts need to be installed in what is naturally very wet ground. There never has been a second platform here. The...

Aberdare looks finished. All wires are up into the station.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I think you need to be very careful interpreting sych figures. Many people, myself included, buy a return ticket to Central, get off at Cathays and maybe return from Central or Queen Street. We think of all three as one and use whichever is most convenient.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Three pics from the Rhondda line today: 1. Treherbert with the new platform and new track in place. The station building is right centre. 2. Dinas looking towards Porth with the new track in place. 3. Dinas looking towards Tonypandy showing the end of the redoubling.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I happened to be in Lisvane Station last Wednesday waiting for a train north and a small group of men in orange suits were putting up these signs. I pointed out to the foreman that the 'Welsh' version of the direction signs was complete gobbledygook with different gobbledygook on the southbound...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I had a walk down to the station at Quakers Yard yesterday to see what was going on. A large army of people were busy working on the down platform. When I asked I was told the work would take some days and to take the bus. I guess like everything else here it will be finished when it's finished.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Don't know why I put Monday in my comment about 231009 Nick since I took a photo of it at Bargoed on its first day on Wednesday. I tĥink old age is getting to me.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

231011 worked the Rhymney-Rhymney via Heath Junction test on 26 January and that is the only time I have seen it on the line until it turned up yesterday. I don't think 231009 had been on the line at all until it turned up on Monday. Photo shows 231011 at Lisvane on 26 January.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

I tried to join the A470 at Taffs Well heading north at 10.00 last night to find the slip road blocked with low-loaders carrying what appeared to be a 398. Must have been your 398008 Buzz.

Quick visit this morning to the redoubling at Pentre-bach on the Merthyr Line. Track has been laid since Monday and completion appears to be close.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Two more photos of the Merthyr Line works, taken from the Abercanaid overbridge just north of Pentre-bach in typical valleys weather. The first is looking north towards Merthyr with the class 66 in the distance) and the second is looking south towards Pentre-bach station. Rebuilding the long...

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

As far as I can work out, 4 231s were out on the Rhymney line today. 231004 was on the passenger turn, 231006 on the Rhymney-Rhymney 3R05, 231002 on 3741-4, but I don't know what was on 3730-6 Canton - Ystrad Mynach and Caerphilly. It passed me at Llanishen moving at a fair whack, impossible to...

    Bow Street

I was in Bow Street today and noticed the extensive earthworks to prepare the platform base on the east side of the line. Unfortunately I did not have the camera to take a picture.

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

The 'Boat Train Express' from Swansea to Fishguard Harbour (only stops at Llanelli, Whitland and Clarbeston Road before Fishguard) was formed yesterday of a single 142. I observed it near Clarbeston Road but was too far away to determine which unit. As it happens, it was reasonably on time and...
