Rail Travel Vouchers to be replaced by cash refunds/compensation.

Interesting - guards on the FGW trains round here have told me they can't accept them on the train!

Rail Travel Vouchers to be replaced by cash refunds/compensation.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33583904 Is it known yet whether holders of existing rail vouchers can swap them for cash? I've got about £100's worth, but the act of redeeming them is murder. My nearest station is un-manned, you can't use them on trains or online, and the only way I can...

    London-Newbury journey times post electrification

Indeed, very much lifestyle connected. A 30 minute commute compared to a 50 minute one is very much more attractive. Does anyone know the reason why the eastbound journeys are quite a bit slower? Presumably they stop more. But why don't they stop as frequently on the westbound journeys?

    London-Newbury journey times post electrification

I'm thinking of relocating to Newbury, and note the electrification of the Great Western Line will include Newbury (but alas not Hungerford or Bedwyn). At the moment, journey times from London to Newbury vary from 51 minutes to an hour eastbound, and as quick as 42 minutes westbound. What...

Worcester to Bristol - valid route via Bromsgrove?

Excellent suggestion Romilly. I'm actually travelling from Bristol to Worcester and back (day trip), but the Bromsgrove diversion is only worthwhile on the return journey, so thought I'd keep the thread simple. I can buy an off peak day return from Bristol to Bromsgrove, break the outward leg...

Worcester to Bristol - valid route via Bromsgrove?

I occasionally need to travel from Worcester Foregate Street to Bristol Temple Meads in the early part of the evening (often around 5:30/6ish). The two options presented by the National Rail Enquiries search are: 17:02 gets in at 18:38 19:03 gets in at 20:39 So not a great service! In the...

    Printing tickets at home/e-tickets

I know some lines do/did offer this (e.g. Chiltern), but why has so little progress been made over the last few years? My local TOCs here in Bristol are XC and FGW. I believe Crosscountry allow you to print advance tickets, but why not anytime tickets? First Great Western don't offer any...

London to Bristol TM via Newbury

    Thanks for the help everyone.

London to Bristol TM via Newbury

Need to travel from London to Bristol Temple Meads, via Newbury (and a 4 hour stay in Newbury), on Wednesday 16th January. I have a Young Persons Railcard. I was planning on getting the 11:18 from London, arriving Newbury 12:12. I need to leave Newbury at about 5, so was half thinking of...

    Crosscountry weekend first

    Much obliged, thank you

    Crosscountry weekend first

Quick question. Travelling between Bristol and Cheltenham tomorrow. Is the weekend first £5 per journey? Can't seem to find the information on their website.

    Cross country garbage.

I too loathe XC in general, and in particular, the voyagers. 4 coach trains for intercity travel (and it's basically only 2.5 coaches as one's first class and the vestibules are enormous) is ludicrous. The trains are cramped and noisy, and the electronic reservations mean you spend ages waiting...

    FGW Paddington Boarding

I'm sure this must have been discussed on here but I can't find any threads about it. I was in London a fortnight or so ago travelling back to Bristol on a cheapo advance First, and for once, they were checking tickets before you got on in First, with guards at each of the doors to coaches...

Train Journeys That Would be Quicker by Bus

Bristol to Chepstow. 1 hour 26 on the train. Less than an hour on the bus, and there's one bus a day that does it in 30 minutes.

    XC on board catering?

Would agree with the consensus - the catering is dreadful. Used to take the train down to Exeter and Taunton on cheap first class fares. On an HST the trolley often never appears in the whole journey (even down to Newton Abbot I've never seen the damn thing). Invariably now I drive.

    FGW Restaurants

Looks good value to me. Have used the travelling chef on many journeys and thought it was excellent - £8 for a decent sized breakfast using quality ingredients and freshly prepared is hard to argue with.

    Rail travel voucher expiry

Rang them up. They said that if the voucher was issued for compensation, they'd renew it (albeit only on a one-off basis - i.e. you only get to do this once). If it's a goodwill gesture, then no renewal. I couldn't remember which it was, but they looked it up and it was a goodwill voucher, so...

    Rail travel voucher expiry

I've got a voucher which expires on Thursday, and I won't be travelling via rail before then. Do TOCs reissue expired vouchers upon request? The firm in question is FGW. I could book a journey I'm likely to make in a month or two, but I'd rather save it for a journey I'm certain to make.

    Underground delays and booked trains

Station A was London Bridge, but I wanted it to be a general discussion as the scenario outlined could apply to any tube journey followed by a booked train. I agree that most TMs would show discretion if approached in advance, but it's an unnecessary worry to have to bear. I think the Zone 1...

    Underground delays and booked trains

Touch wood this hasn't happened to me yet, but how does one stand in the following situation. I nearly had this problem a week ago and was not looking forward to the prospect. Advance ticket purchased from London Paddington to Bristol, ticket only valid on train specified. Travelling...
