The London Bridge “our station staff” announcement…

The interesting thing about the rise in all these notices over the previous few years is that by official statistics violent crime has fairly consistently decreased since the mid-90s (based on the ONS Crime Survey, which is seen as the most reliable method), which would imply that any internal...

    City Thameslink flooded on 2025-02-03

I do hope that if they have to take apart the escalators anyway that they can try and fix the persistent problems they have been having over recent months at the same time

    City Thameslink flooded on 2025-02-03

I presume with just one exit open they don't feel they can deal with the morning peak? Bit easier to deal with in the evening as you can just crowd control at the door.

Should all trains services stop for 2 minutes on Remembrance Sunday?

Can we? It doesn't seem disrespectful to me that people who are carrying out their jobs contact other people who are carrying out their jobs

Victoria Line drivers to stage 'go slow' over noise

TfL would be entitled to not pay for their labour for the day if it was in breach of contract (partial performance is no performance is the general rule) - but obviously if they did that the drivers would walk out completely, so that is the balancing act for them

RMT/ASLEF announce strike action on LU (suspended)

There may also be market realties at play, where if it is harder to retain the CSA staff (with jobs being more interchangeable with other customer service for example) that TfL feels they need to focus more of their pay budget at that grade for retention/attraction purposes

Paddington Elizabeth line escalator luggage shaming camera

I think fundamentally in London there are so many tube stations where you have to use the escalators with your luggage that people are just conditioned to do it that way and aren't ever going to seek out a lift

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

If they are exercising an existing option on the 345s, surely the price will already be specified in the contract? You might be able to negotiate it down with brinksmanship, but would it not provide the maximum ceiling?

Alleged fraud case: is it reasonable for TOCs to accept tickets and later state it's fraud? Could an MP help?

It is also worth adding that there is a presumption that any computer system is working correctly, so it is up to the defence to show that it is not, which can be hard to do There is an interesting article on it here

    Utilising CIV with Eurostar

This may be a stupid question then, but what is the point of selling tickets to London International CIV then if split tickets aren't recognised?

How do TfL readers actually work?

On the rail card point, I think TfL have committed to delivering something on it as part of their bid for the wider South East contactless contract

Transport for London will "declare itself bankrupt" by end of today (14 May 2020) without emergency finance

I'm not really sure that either side have actually lost anything once you take away all the political noise. The fare rise was already in TfL's business plan, and now he can blame the government for it and the only other real thing is a government official in 'attendance' at the board, which as...

Effect of strike on Tuesday 26 May?

Southern's delay repay seems quite clear - "If you arrive more than 30 minutes late at your destination because of a delay to one of our services we will give compensation irrespective of what caused the delay, cancellation or missed connection that affected you"

Thanks for your help guys - I did mean the 0100\0200 Southern service from Victoria (I just though it was at GatEx) - so it looks like I'll be OK.

Southern's Gatwick Express route - can I get on at an unadvertised Selhurst stop?

Hi, I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me. I'm thinking of going into town to watch the football on Saturday and getting the Gatwick Express with its unofficial stop at Selhurst back home at the end. As it's obviously not in the timetables or anything, is there any way of...

    Ticket Easements

Hi, On Saturday I'm going from Preston to Cambridge on a Virgin Train to Euston and then a First Capital Connect from King's cross to Cambridge. I was wondering if the current situation continues where Virgin are offering Ticket Easements to allow people to travel the next day whether or not...
