    Network Rail Test Trains

So NR have a few sets, including 37 and 31. Do these locos have route availability that the HST doesn't? Just thinking whether any HSTs would be taken by them so they can get rid of their older locos.

New TPE Trains - Set Diagrams?

Do the new TPE trains have set diagrams? Thinking of a trip to Windermere and although I can get the Virgin from Birmingham to Oxenholme, I don't mind changing somewhere else if it means I could sample one of the new TPE trains.

    Should Railways Discourage Fast Growth?

Split from: Car Parking at Railway Stations To counter this, perhaps railways shouldn't be encouraging so much growth? They're already too busy at certain times of the day and nothing is bring done to encourage businesses to change business hours (I'm sure many people would work earlier) or...

    People Mis-Naming Railway Station/Companies - Habit?

Seen many people calling it: "Hull Paragon" "Loughborough Central" Forgivable (slightly) is Derby Midland as the large sign above the entrance still says it. Network Fail - yeah, not funny any more. You still get people calling it British Rail, although I hear that term less and less every...

East Midlands Parkway-Airport Bus Service to End

Sorry I don't have a link. It seems to be very early information. Why can't someone just take control of this station? Such a white elephant.

RDG replace separate Railcard forms with one combined form

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) have released new Railcard forms meaning old 'singular' ones should be gone by the 9th of September. This comes after a trial at 5 stations (which then increased). The new ones need a box ticking to say which railcard the person has applied for.

Do ALL trains have to have fault free mileage accumulation?

When a new train is introduced, I understand units must have fault free mileage runs. But does this apply to every unit? I can't remember seeing tens of units running about empty everywhere so it makes me think only the first few units have to go through this. But I may very well be wrong.

Competition and Markets Authority: Are they too cautious?

Been reading in Railway Herald about the East Midlands franchise award potentially lessening competition. The article particularly highlights Norwich - Ely as a route where ticket prices could rise as both operators are run by the same company. I struggle to understand this and the whole...

Converting MK3s - Really Worth it?

Have been thinking about the slow progress of the MK3 conversions. Not including Chilterns now non-standard conversion (which incidently seemed to take a very short amount of time?), is it really worth changing them? It's not about excluding those people who need the PRM mods, but more a...

Why Do UK Trains Generally Have Single Arm Pantographs?

As in, not like many European designs like this: Is it just the diamond version is just an old design?

    Train / Loco Service Records

Do trains not have a service record that travels with it? (thinking like a car here). I guess individual companies will do things differently, but I would have thought the owning company would keep a record?

TRIVIA: Anywhere a Sprinter Family Train Hasn't Been?

Sprinter family: 150, 153, 155, 156, 158, 159. EDIT: I suppose the 950 counts, but more interested in passenger operations or empty stock moves. Is there any area these units haven't worked in the UK? I don't want to limit this to individual stations as I'm sure they would be loads. I was...

Will Preserved Railways Ever Update their Coaches?

Will any preserved railways update their coaching stock with the hundreds of MK3s soon to be (and are already) upon us? I can't see it very soon but at some point, MK3s will be the new MK1s and such. Wonder if it's worth a preserved railway having some and keeping them in good condition, rather...

    Class 66 Wheelsets Question

Never got my head around this and I think I'm mixing up stories here. The Class 66 is undoubtfully a success. I'm sure I read that Brush (who provided the 3 / 3 wheel bogies) wanted £1 million per set, which is why we haven't seen any other wheel sets like it since that loco, despite them being...

Is there a TOC that doesn't meet XC?

Admittedly, I have only thouht for a few minutes but I can only think of C2C. South Eastern perhaps? Is there a TOC that doesn't meet or connect to / serve or pass through a station that another TOC also uses?

    Training on Class 172 Query

I guess drivers/conductors/guards/senior conductors/whatever have to be passed out on each of these: Because I guess they're quite different to operate, despite having the same class number?

Trivia: Diesel Stock that Never sees Electric Supplies?

Following on from this (and me thinking perhaps the sticker and orange cant line doesn't need to exist), are there any diesel stock that wouldn't ever see electric wires? The only thought would be somewhere in Wales (at the moment!). But I can't think of any other diesel ran service that...

    Scotrail Fleet - A Mess?

I didn't realise Scotrail had so many different types of stock. Even discounting the 365s, there seems to be a fair amount of older units up there. Are there any plans to replace the MK2s, 314s, 318s, 320s? I thought the 385s were replacing these units, but obviously not :p

How Are Double Deck Trams Transported to Crich?

Was at Crich this past weekend and wondered how the Blackpool tram (and others I suppose) were transported there? Is it just a case of sticking it on a low loader and picking a route that has no bridges? Or was it separated and taken in two halves?

Can anyone tell me what this train is?

Seen on Great Contenental Railway Journeys S03E02 looks like a "Taurus", but this is the other end. I didn't think they went for DVTs in Europe?
