    Lynton and Barnstaple TWAO

1676065492 I'm really not keen on the deviation planned at Blackmore Gate to avoid the old station/pub. Ideally the latter could be remodelled to allow the platforms to be near where they originally were. That layout works for Spooners on the FR. It can't help that immediately beyond the...

Should the NRM give the Lynton and Barnstaple railway Brake/Observation coach to the L&B trust?

If it were to run on the L&B it'd essentially almost need to be a new build, as I believe all the carriages they use now have metal underframes, whereas the original carriages had wooden underframes. Probably better to keep it in a museum as an original example.

Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland - Timetables?

I'd be a bit dubious about jumping on some public computer and putting in my payment details. But as a minimum, any railway should provide a sensible means by which people wishing to travel can pay.

The Fat Controller - Watercress Line goes pc?

If a very enthusiastic preservation railway volunteer Station Master (AKA to a normal, as a "staff member") hears a Normal refer to their station as a "train station" and interjects, informing them that it is actually a "railway station", would it make the Daily Mail? Would a normal even realise...

The Welsh Highland Railway preservation history and turmoil.

There's a fairly comprehensive account of the backstory on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Highland_Railway_restoration

    Most boring preserved railway?

True, but are there many preserved railways that really do end up where people particularly want to hang around? The likes of Minehead, Bridgnorth and Pickering are nice enough places, but I'd never have done anything but pass through them if it weren't for the railways ending there. I'd guess...

    Most boring preserved railway?

What, it hasn't even got a fading purple Pacer in the car park with aspirations of becoming a 'community hub' or such like?! Narrow gauge is no excuse... I disagree, having been there on a sunny day fairly recently. While I'd agree that on a wet day in February it can certainly be described...

    Preserved/Heritage Railways

If that's the future of 'heritage' railways, I'm not sure they're worth keeping open. Isn't this essentially already the case...?

Ffestiniog Railway Society Board Statement - Resignation of Howard Wilson

Things sound pretty good on the business side for the F&WHR, considering the prevailing circumstances: EDIT: Summary as per forum Rules: Shaped the business and costs for 2021 to work on the income of 60% of what they might achieve in a normal year. Delighted that service they've run so far...

    Llangollen Railway appoints receivers

Personally I find them preferable over loco hauled stock, if only for the view out of the front/back. I doubt most normals nowadays even know of that feature on 1st Gen DMUs though.

Heritage Railways with Busy & Well Respected Engineering Departments?

The Ffestiniog/Boston Lodge have got to be up there. They've had quite a number of paid staff. The long news videos on the F&WHR YouTube channel often featured a lot of news of work going on there. Surprising how much work there seemingly is to go around in UK narrow gauge!

    West Somerset Railway

The WHR and SVR arguably have more of a destination at 'the end', wherever you're starting. I imagine most passengers on the WSR originate from Minehead, in which case, where are they going? Watchet is a touristy place to go, but I can't say I'd be fussed about going to Williton or Bishop's...

UK Rail Vacations R/T from London?

Trawsfynydd and Blaenau Ffestiniog community railway company

Thanks for that. I've got to be honest, I'd really prefer to keep that section as it naturally is. It's a fantastic route to walk. I dread to think what a Camel Trail equivalent with a gradient like that would be like, you know some people would treat it like a descent on a Grand Tour... The...
