In terms of the largest place where the highest proportion of trains do not stop, Nuneaton was be a contender. It's larger than Tamworth, Rugby or Lichfield and we have 3 x Manchester, 1 x Liverpool, 1 x Chester, 2 x Preston/North plus extra in the peaks that do not stop.

Watford also may be a contender.

Did the Wrexham and Shropshire trains run through Birmingham New Street or not as if they did Birmingham may have been the largest one ever.

Birmingham New Street did indeed have Wrexham & Shropshire trains running through at times, but they weren't scheduled to go through there normally as they took a right before New Street then traversed the Cross-City line through Tame Bridge Parkway then onto Wolves.

The cross city line doesn't go through Tame Bridge Parkway. It does go through Aston however which was also on the usual Wrexham & Shropshire route avoiding Birmingham New Street. I believe the highland sleeper is booked via Aston on occasion but it's not the main station in Birmingham and doesn't meet the OP's criteria.

I'm not aware of any passenger service booked via BHM without stopping.

So do the 67s run through there now? I was under the impression that only electrics were allowed through QSLL.

I believe diesel locos are banned from stopping at QSLL - they are however allowed to coast through and not draw power. So Glasgow would meet the criteria.

The ban was related to triggering the fire alarm when a diesel loco draws power, and I believe the issue has now been rectified.

Would this thread not make more sense to be based on station usage figures? The local population is always a contentious subject.

TPE St Helens, the Town has a population of 102,269, but TPE runs straight through St Helens Junction, which is located in the South end of the Town.

Pretty sure there was an up train booked through New St.

An ATW service manages to travel non-stop between Shrewsbury and Newport, missing the one significant population centre on the way - Hereford.

These are just guesses but maybe;

-Wakefield 325k- surely every Leeds-London train can't stop there

The ones booked to go through Wakefield W do all stop there.
If it's not booked to stop, then it goes via one of the diversionary routes.
Occasionally of course the diversionary route has engineering works, so they get diverted back to the 'normal' route and will then pass through Westgate non stop.

I don't think Milton Keynes is going to be beaten for largest with at least hourly passing trains. If it wasn't for the fact that Milton Keynes is a new town I don't think the line would run right through Milton Keynes City Centre like it does.

Looking at Salford I am not sure if most trains passing through there stop as a couple don't stop at Salford Crescent but quite a few don't stop at Salford Central and there is also the passing line through there.

Happiness was travelling non-stop through Leeds when travelling from Bradford to Hull on a return Hull KR supporters special in the early 1970's. I hadn't been to Odsal, I was merely a student going back to college and was told at Exchange to get on that particular train.
