Not Penistone. You need to get up here instead of messing about on London Midland. It's loads better.

Leeds is too far to justify a day trip

If there are any genuinely cheap options to get up that way, then I'd be more inclined. But you'd have to find me a Travelodge at close proximity to one of the major railheads, so ideally Leeds, Manchester or York but I would expect there to be little problem with any of Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield or Preston.

Sod it. Let's have another guess. Let's say, just for the hell of it, Swinton. The one near Doncaster.

looks a bit like the southern two platforms of Meadowhall?

Floor open if correct ( but I don't really think it is! ) - am at work.

Shotgun! Expect a southern station if Peter is correct.

EDIT, because I'm not adding to my post count just for this: D'oh!

Not Swinton.

You definitely need to get up here, if for no other reason than to be more competitive on this thread! It's a long way, but it's cheap once you get here (e.g. WY Day Rover £9.50 for two adults, cheap hotels a plenty).

I don't think Meadowhall as this is a west bound train, judging by the shadows so that would put P1 on the wrong side (I think)..:D

Still working on a guess myself.

Cattal.

If correct, however unlikely, my 3yo niece is psychic! :D

(It had better not be, when my first guess was the next station to the west...!)

Good lord. This is proving harder than I thought it would!

OK, a clue. This station has two trains per hour to the main regional centre, but they depart in opposite directions.

N.B.: I'm taking my niece shopping in a few minutes, so this is my last guess. If right, I will provide a new picture, and then pick it up when I'm back. I won't be that long; 30 minutes maybe?

Beaten by one minute!

For a bonus point, is the 144 working through to Manchester Victoria?

It is. It's the 15:13 Leeds > Man Vic on 7th August last year, which I rode from Brighouse to Tod.

I have a shot taken about a minute later with a johnnied-up GC 180 in the adjacent platform. That'd have been too easy though!

Good place that pub in Tod, will have to get back there one day.

Time for another picture, continuing with the Pacer theme. Bonus point if anyone names the trip it is working.

It was indeed. That's part of the trouble with cranking though. You end up torn between getting in as many miles as possible, and wanting to stay in the pub for more than 20 minutes if you find a decent one!

Not sure where your picture is, and you seem to be joining the fashion for time related clues, which for old farts like me who aren't familiar with the vagaries of diagramming, is more of a hindrance than a help!

Stalybridge is looking like a good shout there.

I can confirm as an exiled northerner its good up north.

Is Ivo a man or a mouse? Glasgow is not bad for a day trip, I have done it at least twice in the last couple of years. Perth or Dundee is pushing it a bit. Yorkshire is a local afternoon jaunt.

It is Stalybridge. Bonus point would have been for telling me it was on a Man Vic to Huddersfield working.

Aye that is the problem, although it is good to go out some days and make the journey only to get to that place and not bashing for a change. Haven't been to Staylbridge in a while so will have to get back for a pie and black peas.

Might have thrown some peple since MCV - HUD is more than likely a 15x working normally.

I thought that was obvious - the Friday only Stockport-Stalybridge would be in the bay, and all other trains are TPE... I think.

There's an hourly Northern Liverpool > Stalybridge as well.

Mutant

It's more a case of "It's too distant for me to be able to afford it without going so far off-course that it becomes too distant period". If XC were fairer price wise, and I could get a decent advance in both ways, I would get 9 hours on a basic daytrip leaving Bristol TM at 07:00 and returning at 23:00. But too keep the cost down, I have to go all the way round by Crewe and Manchester, which is anything up to two hours longer, which reduces it to five. Couple that with not being to use my railcard before 10, or my bus pass before 9, and that 16 is reduced to 13; going the long way round, that leaves just 3 hours. Not enough in my book.

@ Matt: A southern one would be appreciated... :D
