150285 is currently on loan to Northern from ATW it arrived in Manchester coupled on to 150251 on the last Cardiff to Manchester service last night, should be at Newton Heath all day then probably in service tomorrow, from what i can gather it is to replace 150133 as it will be oos for a while. ATW have received most of their 150's back from FGW.

Will be good to see an ATW 150 knocking around Yorkshire or more often than not Lancashire.

Really? That's a shame, its the best of 150/2s we have. Goes like s&@t off a chrome shovel.

FGW have just a couple of ATW 150s kicking about now, I think they're loaned on a daily basis? They seem to return west on the back end of a late Portsmouth - Cardiff run most nights so I presume they go back to Canton. ATW are lucky to be in a position to be able to loan out several units, can't be many TOCs who could spare them?! SWT of course would be another!

I wouldn't fancy sitting on a 150 all that way (I've done it before, but that was before all those shiny 175s arrived)

175s were actually a few years old before they went on to South Wales routes. They spent their first few years mainly doing Manchester/Birmingham/Crewe to Chester/North Wales and Manchester Airport to Blackpool/Barrow/Windermere.

Were the Adelantes not on loan to Northern and they repainted them in their colours?

They had vinyl's put on them rather than a repainting, as they are very easy to take off again and return the 180s back to whatever is underneath the vinyl.

It was a fair question nonetheless - I don't think the question should have been dismissed the way it was.

London Midland have sent 2x153s to NXEA and they seem to still have plenty of slack.

Makes you wonder why EMT got the runt of the CT split up. LM have more than they need and EMT have stock shortage and on the start of the franchise all the units no-one else wanted!

aparently Northern are now to receive a class 153 unit from another TOC besides the 150, im guessing the 153 will be from ATW.

Agreed.

EMT are running single 153s on routes like Derby - Crewe whilst LM have 153s tacked on to Turbostars, and are getting new DMUs too... :(

London Midland are quite cosy for class 153 units, they now only use:

1x Bedford - Bletchley route
1x Coventry - Nuneaton route
1 unit tagged onto a class 150 on the Dorridge - Stourbridge route
1 unit tagged onto a class 170 on the Bham - Rugeley route

so thats 4 out of 7 class 153s in service, they actually have 9 but 2 are on loan to NXEA, so if they lend 1 to Northern they still have 2 spare sat around doing nothing plus all the class 170`s sat around at Tyseley too.

What Happened to the 10th one?

I thought London Midland had
325,333,334,354,356,364,365,366,371,375,

If 158888 last year was anything to go by, I presume it will go wherever Northern run 150s to.

Apparently it's only going to be used on Manchester Victoria services and will return to Newton Heath every night. This is due to 158888 being vandalised while being left at Scarborough station overnight so Northern are being extra cautious this time.

150285 is out on a Manchester Vic - Clitheroe diagram today.

I think FGW may have taken it.

Slightly off topic but I once heard from an Arriva guard that TPE used to sometimes take an ATW 158 on loan for a few days to work on the Barrow/Blackpool/Windermere route. This was instead of the usual 175 sublease whenever there was a reliability crisis or if they needed a few extra 175's in Cardiff for promotional reasons to do with WAG.

Anyone got any pictures of an ATW/ex-Alphaline 158 doing a Barrow service?

the only 158`s ive seen on the Barrow, Blackpool and Windermere services were when TPE used there own class 158`s instead of the 175`s.

At Preston i have seen:

158776 working a Blackpool North - Manchester Airport service.
158778 working a Manchester Airport - Windermere service.
158810 working a Manchester Airport - Barrow in Furness service.

Dont remember any ATW units being used, only there own 158`s as i was quite shocked when i saw 158`s apposed to 175`s.

Was that at the time when 185s were appearing or was it in in the very early tpe years? Tpe actually had a northern 156 booked to work an evening airport blackpool service as recently as 2007 when they had the full fleet of 185s and 170s in service. A 142 even turned up now and again!
