A rather rare event this evening, if anybody is in the area and sufficiently interested! :D

The 21.56 from Bristol TM down to Exeter is to be formed of 143617 & 143612. Generally all four cars on this working tend to be in use. Might be an interesting phot!

143617 on the way up on the 1852 ex Paignton after having had to replace a failed 150248 and 143612 coming of PM following attention and being worked home, possibly wheel lathe. 2156 is booked for 4 Cars on a Friday only and is booked off 2030 ex Taunton.

Thanks for this. I'm unable to make it to Bristol tonight but am always interested to hear GWR pacers straying away from the metro!

GWR 143 143617 strayed this evening. Ran as a STP ECS from Exeter to work 2E89 2125 Plymouth to Exeter St Davids to cover for a non-available 153

Ah Pacers. I was in Devon the other day and it was rather nice to see 143s again, like an old friend. Somewhat less nice to ride in one mind you.

Having boarded what was a 2-car 150 at Exeter, and having found the thing so woefully cramped and uncomfortable that I alighted at Liskeard, before my intended destination, I disagree. I suspect even a 143 might have afforded more comfort and ambience.

Also saw 143617 at Totnes, Plymouthe bound at about 16.30 yesterday so seemed it did have a grand day out

There can only be one thing worse than a pacer turning upon your train and that's two pacers turning up on your train! ;)

Wrong,

One thing much worse than a GWR 143 turning up would be a Northern 142 with bus seats.

Or even worse, Merseytravel seats... *shudder*

Thank goodness all class 143s have Chapman 2+2 seats. Makes them tolerable! I was on a 143 from Westbury to Exeter a few Fridays ago, it was bouncing around all over the place

What's worse than a bendy turning up?

The bendy fagging resulting in an hour-long fester at Knottingley*.

*Other stations with minimal facilities are available.

Actually, they're not too bad at all on the main line along the coast, although you do know you're on one when you enter the platform loops at Dawlish Warren with their jointed track. Exeter to Exmouth is also a reasonable ride on one; and the large windows give great views of the scenic Exe estuary.

However, travelling Exeter to Barnstaple on one is not good, as the line still has a couple of fairly long sections without CWR; rough & noisy! The planned replacement of Pacers on this line by cascaded 158's will IMHO lead to a vast improvement in ride quality and comfort (when the air conditioning works!).

Why is a 143 doing a Cornish working?

Here is 143611 at Camborne a short time ago on the way to Penzance. Photo isn't the best given the deluge of rain!

Interesting and very rare, thanks for posting. :D

I was fortunate enough to ride one between Westbury and Taunton earlier this year. Bouncy!
