I have a hunch that the current g7 Basingstoke / Eastleigh / Salisbury may be Basingstoke ASC rather than ROC, which I believe is 8 hour shifts.
For anyone looking, this is correct.
Basing ASC (BE Main panel, Dorset Coast and WoE), Salisbury, Salisbury Relief and Eastleigh are all 8 hour base rosters. (Salisbury is 12 hour Sundays, not sure about the others)

Thanks, any idea of what the average roster looks like on 8 hours. Being that my current roster as a guard is 8.45 Hour average it would mean less Rest Days.

Merry Christmas all!

Does anyone know what happens with IST over the Easter bank holiday? Mine starts at the end of March so just wondering if we get the bank holidays off or if we plough straight through. Same for the May bank holidays.

If we get bank holidays off does this then delay the end date of the training?

Many thanks!

Training centres generally close for BH. Sometimes they can condense the course if it’s only 1 or 2 days lost, if not it’ll be extended by a week if needed.

Thank you. How about when you’ve finished IST but are still training in your box? My understand is during this time you are working mostly Monday to Friday - do you work bank holidays at this point or not?
Obviously I know after passing out I will be on a roster with working bank holidays.
Many thanks in advance.

During training on a panel, no you get BH off. Still paid 35 hours per week though.

Just not scruffy is the main thing. No sports shirts, ripped denim, shorts etc. there were people on my course in jeans, trainers and T shirts no problems. Equally there were someone occasionally in a suit, shirt and tie. Neither looked particularly out of place so I’d not worry too much.

Wear what you feel comfortable in. It’s long days. No need for shirt/tie. The joining instructions will state smart dress but it’s not enforced.

For my IST course it has been very relaxed, pretty much anything except offensive/political shirts, football shirts, shorts and ripped clothing. Most people dressed smart casual for the first few days but by the second week everyone had pretty much reverted to jeans, t-shirt, jumper/hoodie.

Again, this is only my personal experience from my course, it might well be different at yours.

I've been informed my IST is actually at Basingstoke, starting the 9th January, and not Bristol.

So is there anyone starting IST on the 9th in Basingstoke?

I sent the email last week but receive nothing:rolleyes:
And you left it til 11am Saturday, New Years Eve, to check?! I would’ve been calling whatever number I could days ago. Fortunately most first weeks are informal, especially on a bank holiday/strike week, normally just getting things in order for IST so hopefully no real issue.

As a signaller you’ll need to get used to planning ahead, solving problems before they occur, and finding out information for yourself - so it’s all a good training lesson I suppose!

Hopefully you get sorted, i've had pretty good communication from everyone at HR and from LOM since I began.
In the event your LOM may be on annual leave which seems to be common in December on the railway (Holidays: use them or lose them) it may be worth giving the HR team a call and just ask the question. Someone else may have stepped in to cover and you may have slipped through the net.

Another thing worth checking out for those going to IST; Network Rail have a training website which is quite useful, and has some additional information on the facilities at the various Training Centres in the UK, travelling there, parking etc etc.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been sent my login info for the NR system and told to follow the instructions but the link to the new starter guidance doesn’t work, so I haven’t been able to login. I’ve turned off firewalls and blockers but no success, any suggestions?

I’ve emailed my LOM but he probably won’t respond until Tuesday now (which is my first day). I’d prefer to get this done before then.

Thanks

My understanding is most LOM's are not in until the 5th due to industrial action. I've emailed HR but they appear to be on holiday.

OMG...just wondering how to report duty on 3 January coz I haven't receive any further information
I received an email from onboarding telling me my start date, the name and telephone number of the LOM and the address I was to report, along with the time when I first started.

Surprised you never got anything.

You know that we are on strike that day! Turn up at shift change and report to the RMT rep on the picket line brother.

Hello all, has anyone been given an estimated start date? I have been told it is around July. It is fine I just wondered if any of you were in a similar position?

Sadly they have said they won't pay parking as it wouldn't be needed if going by train, but like you said it's warmer in the car lol, plus I can venture to see family if I take transport

Anyone else going to York on 16th January?
I’m in York January 16th. Can’t wait for it to start.

I'm starting on the 23rd Ross. I've not had any reporting instructions yet but I've been told I'll hear something closer to the time.
Good man! I've not anything either. If I don't hear anything by the end of this week, I'll chase them up. Question / offer for you, given that there are 5 of us starting at Hexham. Parking might be a premium at some of our signal boxes, because I'm coming from the Carlisle direction. If your based along the A69, carpooling for the first couple of weeks might make life a little easier.

Offer is there :)

Regards,

Ross
