Beat me to it. People just need training on how to store their luggage. Many seen incapable of any common sense..

There aren't floor level racks on most local units, TBH, though 153s did have opposite the bog. The overheads are massive, though.

Yes the 153 always seemed OTT with the parcel area and a massive track

How many 755s are actually in the fleet...? The GA Wikipedia article says both 10 and 24 :p

How many of the 24 / 755/4 and 14 x 755/3 will need to be available to run a full days timetable without bringing in old stock from elsewhere?

Just a couple left I think if that. If you follow Richard Clinnick on Twitter he usually post all the latest arrival and accepted units.

I recall a previous post stating that there 25 DMU diagrams that had to be covered by the 26 old units. Hence why cancellations were common if anything went wrong. So the race is now on to bring that many 755's into service ( and ideally more to cover failure), before the last ten go off lease. Otherwise bustitution will come back on the Felixstowe and Sudbury branches with gaps elsewhere.

So if that is correct there are 12 more new units. I think some needed to enable Cambridge-Stansted extension of the 1Kxx Norwich services and some probably for the extension of some Lowestoft-Ipswich to London. What else? Is the rumoured shortfall in IC units actually because 3 of the powerful regionals might be intended to cover the NiNnies? 2.6kW * 3 > 5.2kW * 1.

Some of the new ones were also supposed to be needed for the hourly ¿Colchester? - Ipswich - Peterborough service. I guess those are extra spares for the time being!

Spares sounds wonderful once they are running. Thanks for the information.

Let's hope the current ban on running in AC mode is soon lifted or we can kiss goodbye to the Stansted extension in less than two weeks.

Azerbaijan is giving it a go with five trailers with a four engine power-pack.

Interestingly, the powerpack is off-centre, so maybe expansion is possible/planned?

dk1, have you driven the 755’s yet and what are your feelings on them? And what are they like to drive? Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi mate, yes when they work I cannot fault them. Really are terrific units. The faults & technicality of it all makes most of us dread them somewhat sadly. Shame as acceleration even in diesel is so impressive. Just need to sort these faults out that are denting every drivers confidence.

Agreed. They are impressive when they work. I don't drive them but on a run back from Cambridge last week we were 3 early into Ely. Departed right time and caught the preceding EMR limited stopper up at Thetford and had to wait 3 minutes outside the station for it to clear. Right time arrival at Wymondham where I got of fAdmittedly the EMR was a 156 though!

Not unusual to catch up with the EMR and have to wait outside Thetford, even when it's a 158. Impressive considering the 755 stops at Brandon and the 158 doesn't.
Good performance from these units usually means there's a few extra minutes to grab a tea and a bacon roll at Ely before picking up the EMR to Peterborough.

I caught the 1320 Ipswich-Cambridge last Thursday, I think we were 11 late at Thurston but I seem to recall we passed Fulbourne just about to time, but we got held outside Cambridge so 3 late there, non stopping Kennett helped but decent all the same.

The Flirt I was traveling on to Ipswich announced it would stop at Westerfield but the driver corrected and said we would not stop. Is this an ASDO problem or something else?

Strange, all the Felixstowe services seem to stop there.

Most Lowestofts are not booked to call Westerfield, which service was it?
They do (usually) call when the Felixstowes are cancelled.

Should the pantograph automatically drop when diesel traction is selected? Is there a camera for the driver to check the panto has retracted safely?

Yes and yes. We do not however have that camera viewed for long if selected as would be yet another distraction.
