Well I've been to the Asda Wallmart hypermarket store in Patchway, Bristol and thought it must be one of the biggest for isle numbers, considering there is 55 (or so, between 50 and 55 at least) marked isles, then there was about 5 other un-numbered isles on the trade-in game and electrics section, and another few unlisted ones on George, so all in all it's about 60-70 isles.

I looked online to see that the Asda Minworth is the biggest in the UK. Has anyone been there and knows how many isles that has? I'm more interested in knowing what has the biggest in terms of isles.
I also see that Minworth has a Home Shop too, that must be fun!!!! I'm a picker at the Asda Trowbridge store for Home Shop, and I thought 10 isles of Ambient was a lot, doing it at Minford must be something else but then they might set it up differently, as walking round a million isles would be knackering, takes about an hour to pick 150-180 items just on 10 isles in Trowbridge!

Not sure what has the most aisles, but I know that some shops number the shelves separately (e.g. the Hobbycraft in Ferndown, which I've been to a few times, has shelves going up to the 80s, which is equivalent to about 30 or 40 aisles).

What size are those isles? Isle of Man or the Isle of Dog?

(Sorry, couldn't resist. :))

Supermarket cranking?! I've heard it all now!

In answer to the question - I've been there...but then I live about 2 miles from it so that's not a surprise!

Is the Asda at patchway you refer to, the one by cribbs causeway?
If so for a long time it held the record for being largest supermarket in the UK.
Largest of course doesn't mean most aisles, but largest floorspace, so in theory a store could be only 1-2 aisles wide but those aisles stretch for miles.

Supermarket cranking...?

Yes I was on about Cribbs Causeway, which I only went to when I was on a bus bash to see what it was about as I heard it was huge. The big ones say what floor size they are, but wondered what is the biggest in terms of isle numbers, and if the biggest store (Birmingham) has a lot

The ASDA at Cribbs is massive. I though Longwell Green was big the first time I saw it!

- both of these are in the Bristol area for anyone wondering

That said, I always used to the think the ASDA in Southend was big, and then I saw the Tesco at Pitsea (the largest Tesco in England until the one at Kingstom Park in Newcastle appeared)...

The Tesco store here in Scunthorpe was 1 of the 3 biggest supermarkets in the UK at the time it was built. I've no idea if that is still the case now however ....

I've been to Minworth many times for many years but I don't notice the size compared to other places. Used to have quite a few children's parties in the Dweezles there when I was in Primary School!

I go there pretty often but can never remember how many aisles they have, it's not something I pay attention to

I remember visiting what is now Asda at Cribbs Causeway back in 1978 when it was a Carrefour store and was amazed at the size of the place.

I never knew Carrefour had a presence in the UK. When did they disappear?

As for supermarkets, I always thought that the ASDA in Poole was very large.

The very first Carrefour in the UK opened in my home town of Caerphilly in 1972 it was a huge place and to my young eyes seemed never ending when you were inside.

It closed in the late 80's and was then knocked down to make a new Asda, here is a video about it - http://youtu.be/b5YBevNCzUA

Speaking of Carrefour, the one in Calais has an uncountable amount of aisles imo.
How about Waitrose Bridport - about 12 aisles but it's very long and has unnumbered areas too. Same for Morrisons and Asda in Preston

How do these compare with Asda Bletchley? I went there a few times whilst I lived in MK and it seemed huge compared to any other supermarket I had been to (it even dwarfs Ikea next door, which us unusual!)

At a rough estimate Minworth has at least 36 aisles and that's excluding George which is probably another 10-16 aisles (it gets confusing in the George section when it comes to aisles)

I'd go and find out for you all but it's too hot to leave the house  :(

Claimed to be the biggest Asda/Walmart in the world when it opened!

Just been in and it seems to have over 55 numbered aisles then another section that is just clothing beyond that plus an opticians. Plus the café and fresh food area is before aisle 1. And I think the TV/electronics section was also unnumbered.
