Ahhh that's so annoying people not turning up when I'm waiting for an assessment for Manchester. Thanks for the info though! Are you taking the psychometric tests next?

Yes Psychometrics are booked in around 10 days time

'Likely to include'

Group Bourdon + Tea-OCC
Trainability/Memory Test
WAFV
ATAVT
2 Hand Coordination
SJE
MMI

Most worried about the Memory test and ATAVT - Although I might be dreadful at 2 hand coordination.

I believe my situational judgement to be OK and can prepare for an MMI

Here's hoping.. 1 step closer

I just had one (different TOC) and it was:
- Medical questionnaire (bring any medication you are on)
- Eye tests
- Hearing tests
- Drink and drug tests
- Height, weight, blood pressure
- ECG
- Discussion with doctor (included listening to heart, checking balance etc)

They may do other things depending on your medical history I guess.
That’s great, thank you for that info.

I don’t have any medical history so hopefully will just be the tests you’ve listed.

Anyone have any advice for the initial online assessments?

* Scenario/situation based assessment (no time limit)

* Timed assessment - error checking

Any advice will be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi

In regards to VSE and SJT, do you have to get enhance pass mark for those?
I’m applying for the MTR trainee driver role

Or does the enhance pass mark start when you start the next process of the recruitment, or psychometric part?

Hope anyone could shed some light on this

Has anyone had experience of paying to complete the assessments?

I failed the joystick test but can see How to become… offer assessments

Are these official?

Hello everyone
I applied for GTR (Thameslink) trainee driver and have passed my SJT and mini scat. I have been told I would go in for driver assessment at a centre. Anyone who has done theirs recently or who has an idea what I should be expecting and how many test it would be on that day, so I can start practicing.
Thank you
Hi, how did your driver assessment go? I hope it well! Can you give some detail as to what to expect? Thank you

Evening everyone

I applied for WMR for trainee train driver role in January, done the online tests and was sent a few emails from OPC to say I was being put in the talent pool. The last email I received end of March made it sound like there was like he quite a wait.

I have double checked my emails today as thought I haven’t heard anything in a while to find an email in my junk folder from 14th April inviting me to an assessment centre on 1st May. Unfortunately I was horrified to read on that the deadline to confirm attendance was 18th April which has well and truly passed and that if I didn’t reply by then my application would be withdrawn.

I am well and truly gutted about this as this was a role I was really keen on the role and I know they don’t come around too often. Just frustrating that this has happened due an admin error on my part,

I have replied to the email this evening to advise them of the email going into my junk folder apologising and to see if there is anyway I can attend on Friday or on a later date if there are any slots.

Has anyone had the same situation occur and if so was there any leniency on allowing to still attend at some point rather than having the application withdrawn?

I doubt you'd be able to attend tomorrow, I think OPC want you to have had the practice materials for at least a week beforehand, and you'd have them for at most, what, 24 hours?

Hi,

I potentially have my MMI in just over a week (albeit I need to pass all the tests before of course) and I have been preparing as I can see from the forum that it is a biggie.

I just had a question regarding the examples you have to write down before you go in. Do these need to be written out following the STAR technique, or just concise sentences about the situation and time? I originally assumed that you would just note down an example on the sheet of paper and then they would re-ask the question in the interview for me to then give the STAR technique etc. I've now started to panic due to having 25 minutes to do the preparation work beforehand.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi

I applied for trainee train driver post for MTR

Help me someone. I got the very first stage from OPC. It’s questions to first 4 online test questionnaire.

OPC sent online, one of the questionnaire I went on it to get practice, pressed continue but didn’t press the blue icon to start the test.

I went back, but now it mentioned test incomplete and not allowing me to enter it again.

I emailed them. To reset it again for me, as I didn’t even attend the questionnare in regard to driver priority part.

Will they reset it for me?

Please someone shed some light on this

You probably started the test and entered the example questions. I highly doubt it will be reset because it still classed as the test starting and taking an attempt to view the example questions.

I was only there for less than a second. Could they not reset it?

I’ve seen on OPC if you accident pressed something, you should inform admin straight away to see if they can reset it.

Do you think they will if anyone else was in this similar situation?

I am getting really worried now

Try email the OPC and explain it to them, but highly doubt they will because there might be opportunities for others to let’s say leak through the questions and try resetting them by contacting OPC. Not saying you done that, but in fairness to everyone.

I was waiting for that EL job to come out externally, great opportunity though good luck. I was EL for 6 years, I’m assuming you’re a CEA from PDX?

Let’s see if they reset it for me. Hope they do. Questionnaire is not times anyone could take a picture and send it around. But they can change it around if they reset it.

I have emailed them straight away. It does say in their website if you pressed anything accidently to contact them as soon as and tell them.

Yes that’s correct CEA at PDX. Where do you work now?

They'll tell you on the day, just brief I think because you'll be expanding on the points in the interview

Use the STAT method, my first MMI in 2020 I failed due to "lack of structure in my answers"

When I retook it in late 2024 I focused on practicing interview techniques using STAR with my wife and it made all the difference.

Also use honest real scenarios, they will know if it's ficticious.

Ok mate thank you because that is what I originally believed, it also didn’t make sense to me that I’d put all the detail in beforehand to then repeat it!

Hi mate, I understand to use the STAR technique whilst in the interview but I meant more in the preparation sheet questions? I thought it would be just a brief description and then once in the interview I’d use STAR to be in detail.

In the pre mmi question sheet, it doesn't need to be in star format. I just wrote a brief summary of what I would be talking about in my answer. If my memory serves me correct it is requested that you limit your answer on the sheet.

Hi,

I know there has been responses saying check certain threads but, if possible, I would like an up to date version of what to expect at the assessment centre. It’s literally a long day. Does southeastern provide training materials? Are the materials in depth? What other resources can I use to prepare myself for the assessment too??

SE will send you practice materials about a month before the assessment date. They are very in-depth and cover all the tests, though I would say the limitation with some of them is that it's quite hard to translate a computer test to an on-paper practice version, namely the VSE and TEA-OCC beep test in my opinion.

The day was from 9-3ish, and we were split into two groups, one doing the computer tests first, the other paper tests. We then waited to be told who had passed/failed afterwards, with a couple of short breaks throughout the day, and then it was the VSE at the very end of the day, before we got our final results. MMI will be held on a different day (at least for our group), and I am currently waiting for a date for that.

I did the 14-day free trial of this course: https://www.how2become.com/courses/online-trainee-train-driver-recruitment-training-course/ and also bought a couple of bits of software from How2Become. I also used the free Group Bourdon software that is somewhere on this forum. I was also worried about the two-hand coordination test, so I watched some videos of Schuhfried console you use, which also shows you the actual shape you have to navigate. I got a couple of isometric racing games and assigned steering and throttle/brakes to the left and right thumb sticks, which, even though it's different to the test, at least let me get my brain in the right kind of zone for that! I also found the WAFV grey square test on YouTube and sat through it a couple of times to get used to it and see what would help me to keep my concentration up throughout it.

Hope that helps :)
