Interesting. I wonder how they’re structuring the replies. I applied last Friday and have not heard anything yet.

I just had a reply with a link to practice materials in preparation for the next assessments. I applied to Wolvo so I imagine people are going to receive news pretty soon.

Nothing here yet. I wonder if they are going alphabetically? It doesn't seem to be date of application, location or pass grade dependant as all those metrics are all over the shop. Everything crossed.

Oh that’s amazing! Thank you for finding out rather than all of us asking the same question. I won’t wait that long but off on Friday for 5 days so will do it then at some point haha!

Cheers for that. I've applied for Wolverhampton and have been sent a link to complete the SJE and M7.
Looks identical to the one I did for Freightliner 2 years ago. If I remember right there are 2 parts to the fault finding excercise, you have to keep a very close eye on the track and click when you spot a wrong move or change of colour. It's pretty simple as long as you don't get distracted. The part where you have to do both at once is quite intense though.

I passed it last time so I'm just going to have a quick refresher over the next few days and then fire it up.

Good luck to everyone on the next stage.

What’s part 2 like? Seen lots of examples of part 1 but nothing else. Thanks :)

Anyone who applied to Euston, what day did you guys apply? And also was it the main application when it first was out or just the opc link with access code? I’m not sure if they are checking it separately

I applied for Euston on Monday morning (OPC with access code) and haven’t heard anything back yet although I suppose I was one of the Johnny-come-latelys!
I’ve already passed my assessments with another TOC to advanced standard so wondering if that could be a factor in not hearing back yet... should probably stop second guessing and find something better to do with my time!

Question.....I have passed my OPC already (not sure at what level), but never done the VSE! So if I do the VSE and fail, does that override my current OPC pass? Don’t want to jeopardise my current OPC pass mark haha

I think these are just more tests to help Avanti narrow the field before inviting candidates in to sit the official OPC tests under exam conditions. If you haven’t done the official VSE you’ll be invited in to sit that but won’t have to retake any other sections you’ve previously passed unless you are short of the advanced pass.
Good luck!

Yeah I thought that was the case! Thank you! If I haven’t got enhanced passes for some of the exams that they want, no way am I chancing doing them again and failing because that’ll be my new OPC mark, a big fat fail haha

I previously passed the VSE just under two years ago with Virgin Trains, I believe this was to enhanced standard. Does anyone know if I’ll still have to redo the VSE for Avanti? (Applied Saturday but haven’t heard back yet)

The VSE you take at home will be the official one ... if you fail it that’s the end of this application and you wont be able to retake it for a min 6 months. So if it’s required for any other tocs you have applied for before then it will count as a fail on those as well.

Perfect thank you! I’ve never taken the VSE before and isn’t part of my current OPC pass so even if I fail it I’ve still got that to fall back on :)

That’s how it is for me .... I took it for freightliner and failed it. I had another application with Arriva which required it also so that one ended as well ..however, another application I had with GWR was unaffected as they don’t require it.

40% tax of £70000 is going to be higher than 40% tax of £55000 in terms of tax deduction in take home money is my point. 40% tax deduction is the same however the higher amount will have more tax paid in monetary terms.

55k a year after tax and NI is currently £744 a week.
70k a year after tax and NI is Currently
£944 a week.

Those figures above is not including your pension deductions.

But the difference even after pension deductions is £800 every 4 weeks!

I think you may be mistaken. According to BS ISO 10667-2:2011, part 2, which sets out the rules for running the train driver assessment test, they need to be monitored, it states the assessor must be "vigilant and walk around the room during the test".

I suspect these online tests are just to narrow the field. The invite says that if you pass these tests you will be invited for face to face assessment.
