Incidentally I was fascinated to see your spelling of the word gennel ; this betrays your origins as much as your moniker does. Round these parts- Lancashire- it's definitely a ginnel. You need to learn the lingo, lad ;):
Yep, ginnel here too. Never heard gennel (pron. jennel) though.

Dave, I just want to add my thanks to those of many others for your efforts in cataloguing the current civil and electrical works in connection with the NW electrification programme. For those of us who find it more difficult to get out and about these days (for various reasons) your work is invaluable. Moreover it will be priceless to those who come after us.

Er, it's an alley, innit?

I rarely hear 'theein and tharin' when I visit home now, though the universal use of 'Duck' (as in Ey up me Duck) always tells me I'm back.
It will be tonight before I process these shots because I'm off to watch Derbyshire thrashing Lancashire at cricket today.
Dave

No need to go east of the Pennines to be called "Duck".
It's how they talk in the Potteries, and in nearby areas of Cheshire like Congleton and Alsager - places that regard Stoke as the centre of the universe.
Hope you enjoyed the South Africans playing each other at Southport.
Prince v Amla - brilliant players.

We called them Ollies.

We called them Nibs.

I've processed the photos thealexweb kindly sent yesterday.

I've put them into thealexweb's album here:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/sets/72157652232138430

and to the Combined Volume here:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/sets/72157648767927083

I added the Ladybridge shot as 4086i and woven the Dean Clough shots into the 4134 set.

Thank you thealexweb.

PS: Spongsdad - fear not, we rarely stray and soon come back

Also used by my mother's relatives from Walsall.

Viewed the Down line from Ordsall Lane to Euxton today.
There are now 15 bases installed from the Liverpool St bridge near Ordsall Lane, northwards to Windsor Bridge South Jn.
That's most of the way from the existing masts at Ordsall Lane to Salford Crescent.
It just needs maybe 3-4 more to go in south of the Liverpool St bridge to complete this section,
No change elsewhere, didn't see the Up line.

I have tried yet again to upload the photos from 24/05/2015 but I got the token error message (see the attached screenprint) again. How do other contributors send in there photos?

Joe Callaghan has kindly sent another fine set of Farnworth Tunnel shots.

I've put them on his album here:

and onto the Combined Volume here:

Thank you Joe.

thealexweb has succeeded in sending me the photos he was struggling with.

They are a fine mixture of Dean Clough bridge and Ladybridge shots.

I've added the Dean Clough shots in the usual way as the most recent, ie set 4222. But as the Ladybridge shots do not depict any progress (because none has been made, nor will be made until Dean Clough is reopened to the public) I have woven them into photoset 4086 making that a smashing 'all angles, big picture and detail' then study before it changes forever.

You may find it interesting to have a look at the Ladybridge sets 4086, 3642 and 3548 which dot most is and cross most ts. All we need is a few yesteryear shots with four tracks and the water troughs and we'll be quids in. Any offers?

I've added them to thealexweb's album here:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/sets/72157652232138430

and to the Combined Volume here:

Thank you thealexweb

PS: I found this of considerable interest, especially the early shots which are gobsmacking to someone who only first viewed the line recently:

The current RAIL (Issue 775, p21) contains two articles about 'our' line, including a photo.

One gives re-opening dates for several bridges, but not Spencers.

The other summarises work on Farnworth Tunnel.

The only correspondence I received re adding Orlando Street bridge to the Bridgeoscope was as follows:

'Dear Mr Exile

I think hanging baskets would be lovely in Farnworth Tunnel, but how would the poor men who have to water them see in the dark?'

Yours sincerely

Mrs Trellis
North Wales'

I have taken this as supportive and attach the updated spreadsheet accordingly.

Gardening beckons......

Obviously a post intended for Jack Dee,
I think his address is Mornington Crescent if you wanted to forward it on to him

I don't know, it seems a bit non-committal to me.

There is no reason why the redundant bore at Farnworth couldn't deal with hanging baskets ...

<insert punchline here>

That's a bit of a come-down for him isn't it? Will he get the minimum wage for the work? Will helmet, boots and a safe walking route be provided for him and, as Mrs T asks, what about lightning?

You fell for that one??

His address is, of course, Chalfont and Latimer, tunnels are wild in May.

Would mushrooms be a better idea in the tunnel?
Hanging baskets could be more of a hazard unless you were wearing your hard hat.

Surely with typical Lancashire precipitation the porosity of the tunnel would make the baskets self irrigating.

All I want to know is where's Samantha?

She's in the tunnel doing a thorough examination with the tunnel engineer.

Mind you it's dark and dirty in there, and with no power they are having to use candlelight, which is causing a few problems with hot wax.

So they have divided the work up; Samantha runs her hands over the curves, whilst the engineer brushes the dust and wax off in the entrance.
