Many thanks, Joseph - as always, very enlightening. Is there a technical term for Dave's TGBUs (Thunderin' Great Big 'Uns) ?

I also notice that beneath the ATF standoffs there are long horizontal pieces of metal rod with a number of thin spikes spaced along them; are they to keep the birds away or to discourage coronal discharge or something like that ?

They are to catch and short to Earth the bare ATF conductor should it snap.

The Fast lines, middle siding and engineers sidings at Kirkham are abandoned after service tonight. They will be lifted at a later date.

The disconnected track and points causing a few issues at Bolton this morning, due to one of the points losing detection despite being secured.

Just been to walk the dog across Anderton Hall LC and found it it now locked shut with a NR notice saying follow the diversion on the council notice which says use the new not-yet-built footbridge route. <facepalm>

I thought these foot level crossings were kept open while the bridge is built.

I turned around and went the longer route through the golf course. As I got back up towards the services, I heard voices behind and looked to see that group of teenagers had climbed over the locked gates to cross the line.

I hadn't noticed when QueensCurve quoted you that he was quoting a post from 2015!

I have a frustrating issue that I get signed out automatically at random. This repaginates the site for me and I sometimes go back to a much earlier post.

Any guiidance on why this is happening, what cookies I need etc would be welcome.

I'm not sure I understand. Does it cause the posts in a thread to be listed in non-chronological order?

No.

I choose the number of post per page through my account. If I click on the link to the next page, it goes to the page with that number. If it has logged me out, it goes to that number on the default (much lower) number of posts per page.

I don't know how to make mine do that. When I want to read a thread I just go to the last page and look backwards until I come to posts I recognise, then read forwards.

Meanwhile I see Victoria to Stalybridge is still listed for completion in December 2017 (Regulated Output, journey time improvements included).

If I remember correctly there are no bases yet.

The March 2017 update to the Enhancements Delivery Plan is now up:

Well done for finding.
A great deal of work has evidently gone into the NW update.
It has no date for Preston-Blackpool (other than CP5), and it shows Victoria-Stalybridge as Dec 2017!
They are still "working with the new franchise operators" to determine outputs.
At least we have some faith in the Dec 2017 for Manchester-Preston now.
Huyton 4th track is also down for Dec 2017 (but is indicative).

Surely Vic - Stalybridge electrification is not going to be possible for December? There was an issue I remember with the power supply if it's not ready though

Fast lines at kirkham confirmed as out of service - sleepers chained across the rails and many fishplates already unbolted

The West Coast Power Supply Upgrade item on page 69 contains some new text:
"WCPSU is a critical enabler for the Preston – Manchester (Phase 4) EIS in December 2017 following changes to the NWEP Phase 5 programme."

Its third commissioning area, Springs Branch to Euxton, has slipped from March 2017 to December 2017, and its fourth commissioning area, Weaver to Whitmore, has disappeared.

Why not just leave the posts per page on the default setting? In my experience, software is generally least buggy when used in its default configuration, because that gets the most testing. I suspect most forum users (myself included) have never even looked at that "Edit Options" page.

Are you remembering to tick the "Remember Me" box when you log back in? I get logged out at random if that is not ticked.
