Why? What is so great about "said place"

He lives there.

A subset of this forum's users seem to find any reason (often anecdote or rhetoric) as to why their town or village should get extra services, with complete disregard to the business case and indeed opportunity cost of deploying that stock and staff resource elsewhere.

One of the most annoying justifications is when it comes from leisure travellers or students, who aren't even a regular market!

So leaving London at 21.16 and getting into Inverness at 08.38, Aberdeen at 07.36 and Fort William at 09.54 isnt enough time for someone to get some sleep ?

The FW sleeper leaves at like midnight...I was at EUS and it said "23:50", the lowland left earlier that night.

I fully agree with you,
They seem to think someone somewhere can just "click" their fingers and bang, more services, does not work like that.
I live in plymouth, and I believe we get plenty of services down here. (but thats a whole other endless thread!) :P

So for example if i said there should be an additional service from the East and West Coastways to London, they would say it needs to be extended to Preston via London Bridge, Sutton, Guildford, Reading, Bristol, Cardiff, Wrexham, Crewe, Manchester and Bolton to give these places direct links to each other ?

Yeah let's do that</sarcasm>
Think realistic now.

Am I correct however in thinking, The Lowland sleeper does in fact leave at around the "midnight" time of night, but can you not get on this service hours before it is due to leave?, I know with the Night Riviera to Penzance they open up the doors at 10:30PM and it does not leave until 23:50

It's the other way around.

Cabins are available from 2300 (for Edinburgh / Glasgow; 2230 on Sundays) though, so there's up to an extra 90 minutes sleep in there, plus they can be vacated by anything up to 0800 the day after.

When I caught it, the platform was deserted at 22:30, we went for a pint in the Tap and came back a little later

Realised that it was northbound but thought it might effect the southbound.. Stock returning or something.

I haven't seen it passing MKC at that time before..

I have :) the strangest was seeing it stopped in platform 2 at bletchley with the staff and passengers having a brew and a chat on the platform and the driver having a crafty fag by the spt

Aye, sorry, I was quoting the times ex-GLC. The northbound times are the same as the EDB portion. Post will be corrected :)

How come I get delayed almost every time I go on the ECML so that I'm late for whatever I'm doing in London but never get delayed on the Caley Sleeper back? It's not fair, I would quite like to be stuck in a snowdrift or a siding for a few extra hours provided the bar was still open and food was still being served. :D

When i was a driver @ Perth i have left Edinburgh around 11am if i remember correctly and got to Perth around 1300hrs with 1S25,due to bad weather,it slipped to a halt, megger probs that night.

But again same train i've arrived @Perth nearly 3,yes 3hrs early,no-one wanting off @ Stirling or Gleneagles.

Oh happy days.
