I've booked myself a trip to Fort William from Crewe in September 1st Class on the sleeper. I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to be in Coach G - 7 Is this the middle of the coach away from the wheels? Not exactly in the middle of the coach but not over the wheels either.

My tickets arrived today and included a $2.50 voucher. Is this for use at the bar? Most likely, although I hope it is in pounds sterling not dollars.

Also if there is a large delay like what has happened a couple of times this week what happens? Money back like on normal trains if over an hour? Yes. However, note that the Sleeper has had a rare few nights. Over the four weeks to 21st June, 100% of sleeper services ran and 93.2% arrived within 30 minutes of schedule (95.1% in the last year)

Yep. As a 1st class traveller you also get room service if you prefer that to sitting in the lounge, and I presume (though don't know for certain) that the voucher can be used if making a purchase that way too.

Does anyone know why there is a 66 on S96 today?
Run out of class 90s. There should be three class 90s at the London end but if there isn't (or one fails) then something else will be rustled up for 5S96. The preference is for a class 67 if one is available but a 66 or 92 will do.

Similarly when 1S25/6 are diverted via the East Coast, an extra loco is needed at the London end to work the trains into Euston which can (and has) thrown up 66/67/90 or 92 in the past.

Does that 66/67/92 get changed when the rake reverses at Wembley?

Yeah it does. The loco leaves the rake in the afternoon, and comes back/another comes back before it leaves in the evening

When running via the East Coast, 1S25 and 1S26 are far enough apart in time that the "3rd loco" can go back to the depot and do 5S96 / 1S26 as well, but 1M11 and 1M16 in the morning are too close together in time for one loco to work both trains so a "4th loco" has to be found to work 1M16 into Euston. In both cases the trains normally work top & tail from Euston though it has been known for the class 90 that has worked from Scotland to be run round at Wembley when the "tail loco" has failed

£19 bargain berth bagged for the 23rd September for the lowland sleeper to Edinburgh :)

Coach M, Berth 3, so I'm guessing at the end of the coach.

*goes off looking to use up some reward points for East Coast (although heading South I guess the full evening meal isn't available, seems only to be available heading northbound)*

Well .... its a week tonite when we left Euston for Fort William , as much of our journey has been well docummented on here , I`ll just like to tell you that our train which were severely delayed was terminated at Perth where we were coached in by road and reaching our destination around 12:10pm .Our return we couldn`t fault the run south was superb, just one disappointment was the arrival at Euston 07:47 is just little bit to early for me but understandable for day trippers and bisiness persons. regards Dave1954 .

I'll agree there, its a shame it isn't possible to hold the rake in Euston for longer, to allow leisure passengers a lie in. especially with the relatively late departure of the Lowland.
