Does anyone know what's happing with the Cambrian Railways in Oswestry. Dad recently took a walk along the line and it looks like some work is happening just south of Middleton Road Bridge. There appears to be some bridge strengthening works, the tracks just south of the bridge has been lifted and a strange concrete diamond has appeared in the middle of the trackbed. I'll see if I can post some photos.

Did wonder if NR finally passed possession of the track over to Cambrian and they were proceeding with their extension to Gobowen or if the line is being converted into a cycle path?

If you fancy coming to see the progress on the line we are running a special heritage bus service on the 14/15th and 21st/22nd September linking Gobowen station to both Oswestry and Llynclys And best of all the bus is free!

We would love to see you and you can see what we have been up to and hear about future plans. This is being organised as part of the Heritage Open Days around the country. There will be a chance to visit the rejuvenated Oswestry South Signal Box and ride on different motive power at the two sites.

Details and latest information on the project are on the blog. The bus times are in the post on the 26th August.

One scheme, multiple sites. Until we can link them up.

A quick summary is below. More details on the CHR web pages.

Gobowen station. CHR owns the bay platform which is currently home to a cosmetically restored tank wagon. The site is kept clear awaiting future developments.

Oswestry station. CHR headquarters and museum. Trains, usually steam hauled, run south from here for about a mile. Work is ongoing to extend to Weston Wharf (Morda) where a simple station will be built, right next to Stonehouse Brewery. Weston is currently closed due to the building works going on.

Llynclys. Trains run from here south to Pen y Garreg about 3/4 mile. Home of the C&W team.

The eventual aim is to link all sites and run to where the Tanat Valley Light Railway branches off. That is a very long term aim.

At Oswestry the steam service will operate with Andrew Barclay 0-4-0T Works No 2261 of 1949 backed up by Drewry/Vulcan DM 'Telemon' wks number 295 of 1955

At Llynclys it is likely to be Ruston-Hornsby 165DE (458641 of 1963) named Alun Evans in alternative a class 101 unit.

Obviously this is subject to availability, I will check and confirm

The final weekend of regular services saw the passenger train run past the accommodation crossing, now renamed to Black Meadow Crossing, for the first time since 1965. There is a video in the Blog post from 24th September.

Just our special events to go between now and the end of the year.

Many thanks for all of the support and if you enjoyed your visit tell your friends. If you think we can improve, tell us. If you want to help, join us. We need help in all areas and all levels of ability.
