Trains still travel fast through Shepreth Junction to and from London Liverpool Street at up to 90mph!
Towards Royston is 30mph being improved to 50mph. It's actually gonna be reduced towards Liverpool Street from 90mph to 80mph so the difference in speed is small enough to remove approach control

I knew the Shepreth branch was being increased to 50mph but thought it was just through the station where the WAML was being reduced to 80mph and was increasing to 90mph south of the station?

I think I heard through the junction. There's a really helpful video up thread with a presentation all about the project and that's where I got this info

The difference in speed for diverging route from a main route for there to be no approach control has to be 10mph or less. So it eould be unusual for approach control to be removed in the circumstances you describe. It may well be amended, of course, potentially with flashing yellows.

I don't really know, I just heard it mentioned on that presentation thing

Interesting development today - looks like a left hand set of points visible behind the bridge. Curious why that’s there!

So with the junction improvements, does that mean some trains on the King’s Cross line will be stopping at the new station, to and from King’s Cross?

Couple more photos today. Looks like work is picking up to install the p1/p2 track. There is also some covering going onto the roof.

Have been told the down line from Royston has been reduced to 30mph at the new junction by a very reliable source. No idea why but wondering if it’s a signal sighting issue.

Nope, still 40 down to 30 through Shepreth Branch junction as has been for years.

I’ve been away for a couple of weeks, so sorry about lack of updates. Here are some photos from yesterday. Looks like good progress on the roof and track for p1/p2. I’m curious what the blocks on the roof are for. I had originally assumed they were temporary but now they have been covered with roofing material is looks like they are permanent. Maybe something to do with securing services or setting the level for the green roof?

I had the drone out yesterday. Here are some photos of the station and junction. You can see the new track layout and roofing quite clearly.

Nice photos! Odd place to be for that 2-car sprinter DMU in your third photo there. Wonder what that was doing there (looked on RTT, couldn't see anything that quite matched the timing).

The 2 car DMU was following a few minutes behind this...

I also think (but need to check the video) that the 1-car DMU went towards Shelford but the 2-car took the junction toward Royston.

Yeah I saw those two, but according to RTT, at the time the picture was taken, 2Q10 was approaching Audley End and 2Q20 had just passed Foxton.
@neill Is the clock on your drone about 10 minutes fast? That would make everything match up, and makes the GN service in the photo 2C43.

2C43 is going the other way. The GN service would be the late running 1T36

The GN service is 12 cars, so not a stopper, and is travelling in the down direction. I think it is the late running 1T36 1410 Kings Cross-Kings Lynn.

But you are right the 2 car DMU could be 2Q20 not 2Q10, especially if it was behind the 1 car DMU.

The track on the right is not in use yet but will become the down GN line.

Slight tangent, but prompted by the shots it got me wondering - does anybody know why the Addenbrooke's Rd bridge over the railway was built as long as it was, especially compared to the MGB bridge to the north. Two spans I can see some justification for (passive for the station, access for pathways, etc), but three seems uncharacteristically extravagant unless there was some particular reason for it that didn't apply to the older MGB bridge.
