Hi I've been told I failed my cbi
I got AABBC in my results
And was told because I got one C this meant I failed
Can someone clarify this as from what I've read and been told
That this isn't a fail and which TOC s would accept this
I passed my dtg well and everything else

Any help appreciated

hello mate C is usually classed as a borderline pass... and iam assuming it was with firstgroup? Firstgroup dont accept any borderline passes which is the reason for your bad news id imagine.

not really sure on who accepts borderline passes... i do believe northern do but you would need clarify.

dont see it as bad news mate....its still a pass at the end of the day. and if you need to retake it in 6 months time for any position which comes up say for firstgroup.. then im sure you have gained some valuable experience to take with you for next time.

keep head up mate..youll get there

Depends on what questions you were asked and if you were proactive in your answers

Yes of course there are only five questions to answer. But as you communicate throughout the interview, there is no need for a question relating to communication.

Rules, emergencies, conscientious, proactive and alone relates to the five questions.

I was under the impression those questions were a bit mix and match, and by that I mean they had multiple competencies each (of the 6 in total) they were testing - but I could be wrong. During my answers I tried to cover all grounds (for example during an emergency situation, I used an example where I could show my ability to be conscientious and pro-active about solving the problem at hand, in a situation where I was alone and had rules to follow! You may have done this on the other questions without realising - however a lot of it came up in the sub questions (For example the recurrent "...and how did that make you feel?", I might be wrong on this though!

However, if each question is based on just 1 competency as described above, then the Proactive one to me would best suit the education/personal goal question. Being pro-active would be to go above the minimum to show you really wanted to excel at the topic at hand. Describing the extra work you did to not only meet the goal or educational needs, but surpass them is what I think they are after.

Please excuse me if I am wrong about this, I'll put this as a disclaimer here that I don't know how they are marked 100% - However in the past few months I've been to several graduate engineer assessment days for jobs with large companies (with success) which all had competency based interviews, and that was the way all of these companies interview processes worked (although obviously mostly looking for different skills to those required for a train driver). I can confirm this as I had it shown to me during a previous job, and a friends dad showed us the competency interview forms for a large mechanical engineering company he works at who followed this method! Hopefully this helps.

The way the competency interview marking works is not the answers you give to the questions but how you answer them, for instance, Communication, Proactivnessa and being consciencious can all be marked quite easily with any question. Being proactive is one of the key points of being a successful train driver. Driving a train is thinking ahead and assessing what to expect, reactiveness is reacting to the current conditions. For example, train drivers get notices every week, belive it or not (the qualified drivers reading this) I read these every week to see if there are any planned engineering works, speed restriction planned etc on the routes I sign, this is being proactive.

By Bert & Ernie getting a "C" with the proactiveness this is the area they need to work on. If anyone wants examples of railway related proactivness (and it's not cheating, it's advice on how to work it out yourself) PM me, another good word at the moment is also pre-cursors :)

I'm glad you can make sense of it! Do you know how long a chain is in the WON?

You are right though I think the reason the interviewer goes into so much depth on each question is to see how you reacted to the situation you found yourself in. What did you prioritise? etc etc. They are looking for the qualities they want in answers you give.

Thanks for clearing that up TDK! Obviously I'm not quite on the ball with my theory, luckily it worked for me I guess! Makes sense though.
