We're running a special Boxing Day service on Monday 26 December - save yourself the hassle of finding a parking space. Leave the car at home and take the bus this Boxing Day!

Following a successful 2016 we'll be running special timetables on services*30, 35, 38, 44 & 144.

First Worcester are running some services on Boxing day

Lothian Buses in Edinburgh usually run a skeleton service on main routes on Christmas Day, but nothing official has been published yet for this year.

Now available. Some services increased to every 30 minutes. Also East Coast running to East Lothian replacing First.

I've always found it's odd that Easter Sunday has a full service (to obvious Sunday timetables) when retailers are by law closed and not much happens (no football etc) yet in the majority of places, there's no service on New Years Day, when at times there's a full football programme and increasingly more shops open.

Is Keighley the only town in the UK where the only day without buses is New Year's Day?
Annoyingly the only day without trains is Christmas Day.

Brighton & Hove publish their Boxing Day timetables in the Winter Bus Times, so we knew in mid-September that this year would be much the same as last. The main changes are an improvement on the coast road (every 15 minutes as far as Denton Corner), with the 14 separated out onto its own schedule (every 75 minutes) but only 3 each way via Beachy Head (the regular Sunday service).

The published timetable for the 25 includes many extras, presumably for football traffic although, now Albion's match against QPR has been moved to 27th, I expect that these will not be running.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I am aware that in the West Midlands PTE area, National Express (the former West Midlands Travel) normally run a special Boxing Day service between 09:00 - 18:00 on the mainstream routes e.g. 126, 9, 61/62/63, 45, 47, 74, etc.

I have tried to search on both their website and the Centro (WMPTE) but no information yet.

In North Kent, Arriva will operate a Boxing Day service on six routes, four of which go to Bluewater. That's 481 from Gravesend via Ebbsfleet, 490 from Gravesend via Northfleet, 700 from Chatham via Rochester and Strood, and B from Dartford.

There will also be a service on 190 between Chatham and Dockside (only), and on 166 between Chatham and Lordswood. Why Lordswood gets a Boxing Day service but no other residential area does I don't know, but the same thing has happened for the last few Boxing Days.

Don't forget there's Christmas and Boxing Day buses in Bristol courtesy of Cityfox. The timetable valid from 6 November is on the Kernowfox website. http://www.kernowfoxbus.co.uk/bus-times-fares/4589391679

The Bristol Post covered the story recently and the comments section is worth a browse.

No sign of a service registration as yet and no mention on Traveline but Team fox have been out and about with timetable leaflets.

Aww spoilsport. Now people will have to find something else at City Fox to pick fault with! Good luck with the service.

You do know the history of the company and it's owner right ?

in South Yorkshire:

Christmas Day - only service is the workers buses from Barnsley to the XPO Logistics Warehouse

Boxing Day - a network of buses will run in Sheffield funded by Sheffield City Council run by a mix of First, Stagecoach and TM Travel. Additionally the X1 Sheffield-Rotherham-Maltby will run hourly for the benefit of Meadowhall shopping centre staff and customers. Trams will operate a special service, run commercially. Free parking at park and ride sites just pay for tram ticket.

New Years Day - a limited bus network will be run by First in Sheffield, funded by Sheffield City Council. A special tram service will be run commercialy but shorter hours and lower frequency than boxing day due to much lower demand. Free parking at park and ride sites just pay for tram ticket.

Christmas Eve/New Years eve - buses and trams will finish around 6pm.

Details of First Kernow services over the Christmas and new Year here:-

No services running on 26th December. No train services running either.

Clearly last year's experiment with FSW wasn't as successful as hoped. Last year, it was special services on the 14/18, U1, 5, 17B, 27 and 91/93 plus Sunday service in Somerset for Boxing Day. Nothing for this year sadly but perhaps a little too soon?

The Uk is a different world compared to some other countries. I was in Vegas last christmas on the SDX bus on Christmas day going to a shopping outlet. On the bus there were regular announcements stating that all bus travel was free on New Years Eve from 9pm until 4am the following morning. None of this ever happens over here. We dont even have the service never mind a free one!

Overnight free travel used to be a regular thing in London on the bus and tube.

And still is on NYE.

TfL will be providing a Sunday service as per usual, except on Route 96 to Bluewater where a Saturday timetable will be in operation.

I'm not surprised Trentbarton aren't operating on New Years Day, they don't usually, but I am surprised the Skylink services aren't operating.

I don't know who XPO Logistics are but I'm sure anyone who works there are happy they are working Christmas Day.

Who runs those buses and hence are having to open up, Stagecoach?

The other holiday period oddity in London this year is that Saturday services run, on the small number of services that run M-S only[1], on Tuesday 27th Dec. This is to avoid a longish gap in service provision given multiple days of no / Sunday only service. Can't recall when this was last done.

[1] e.g. 346, 404, W10, 385, R5/R10 etc.

Oxford Bus have no local services on Christmas Day (no repeat of the X13 service in 2014).

Boxing Day sees mainly Sunday daytime services on local routes with reduced frequencies on the 4 & 6 routes than previous years). No 400 Park & Ride on Boxing Day either. New Year's Day has, for the first time in many years, no service on 4, 6, 35, 300 & 400 routes.

Airline coaches run every day, X90 every day except Christmas Day.
