Does anyone know what testing the 345's are doing this week from Ilford EMUD? I'm off Thursday and wanted to head into London to snap one out and about...

All I can find is this little group which is down for all this week, Friday excepted. Don't know if it's 345s or not. Can't think of anything else that'd be running back and forth empty all morning at the moment though?

Might go and check it out one day this week. Note they seem to all run into and out of Liv.St as part of their journey (apart from 5G90/95).

c2c route learning?

Bear in mind the diagram starts its day at Fenchurch St from the same platform as a c2c arrival from Shoeburyness

That's true. Although there are two departures from plat 2 off that ex Shoeburyness, one after the other, so it must split? First bit to the above diagram (5G90), second bit to East Ham depot (5E16).

Mind you I've a feeling the 345 test runs show up as ZZ now I've searched a bit further?

Does anyone in the know have any idea whether one of the 345s will be used to test gauging on GA lines ahead of the delivery of the (supposedly) class 720 Aventras?

Aren't the TfL units a different length?

They should be the same, except the door arrangement (2 per carriage as opposed to 3)

Edit: 710s are shorter at 20m, but the 345 and 720 are about the same length.

pretty sure the Class 710 are 20m carriage length? Rather than the 22.22m of the Class 345

Little too late! There is a small part in the latest RAIL magazine that will show you, I managed to find a 345 in service! It sort of didn't operate some runs in the morning out of Ilford, but turned up with an unidentified STP headcode at Shenfield whilst I was down at Southend and luckily enough, it decided to proceed down to Southend as planned. Had to go quite far out of London just to catch it though, presumed it wasn't running so nearly went to the airport at Southend instead! Glad I stayed now...

Unfortunately I'm not sure they were the ones now, I didn't spot that those services utilised some stock that had just come in to Fenchurch from Shoey, so may well, as mcr247 says, have been staff training on c2c. Maybe on the 387s but don't quote me on that?

Anyway yes nice one, didn't know they'd put it in service, current Crossrail plans say May for a London - Shenfield service. Is it running all week? Are there any other runs or just Shenfield Southend?

And if referring to the 720s both sub-classes will be different lengths

10 car - 240m so 24m carriages
5 car - 110m so 22m carriages

That's gonna be very narrow especially using 3+2!

Not quite, though that info was going around for some time.

All GA Aventras will have same length coaches. 24m driving coaches, 23.3m trailers.

Just spotted 345002 poking its nose out from behind something else earlier at Wembley yard.
So it's still not left yet.

Quick question - how would I be able to use Realtime trains to track a class 345?

That's a bit touch and go unfortunately. When I went to see a 345 at Shenfield, nothing turned up despite the path being activated on RTT. In the end I went to Southend and it turned up at Shenfield upon arrival at Southend! It was running a VSTP movement to Southend, where I saw it, and then ran the booked movements from Southend onwards. I believe they run as ZZ, so under freight as the have freight drivers. Keep an eye out for any ZZ paths out of Ilford EMUD.

What units are physically built and either under test, driver training or delivered pending acceptance to traffic ?

If going into service in May (assume May 17?) surely some must be ready to go now ?

Here's a link for ZZ movements at Ilford EMUD for this coming Monday.

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/XIF/2017/04/24/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt&toc=ZZ

Of particular note is the STP working set for this day only, from Doncaster west yard. Not necessarily a 345 though. Could even be another class of unit returning from Wabtec or something.

That I'll be a 321 returning from Wabtec after refurbishment, a clue is in the timing load 321.

That's not always a clue though to be fair. I've seen all sorts run under the guise of another unit, usually because that's the closest timing they can find.

Yep seen both, waiting at Stratford for the 1542 to Southend Vic, 005 went through plat 8, and later on (about 1555) 006 was in the TBS at Gidea Park.
