Is that unlike its date with on oxyacetylene torch, which I guess will be considered "very warm storage"?

They'll be missed by the rail operations people who must be getting fed up now with the high failure rates for the German trains.

There was a rumour that Vivarail were looking at them (no, really).

To stack up next to all the D78s that no one has any interest in? maybe they should branch out into just a scrapping business.

E-Train name copyright to me (please note Mr Shooter should you wish to use that) :p

Or following on from post BRexit budget cuts and lack of investment they go to First-Abellio-NX East Anglia for Norwiches

Let's give them some time, they haven't even trialed the things on the Cotswold line yet. London Midland and ATW have shown varying degrees of interest, nowt confirmed but I wouldn't write them off just yet.

Due to delays with the Ordsall Chord, many class 373 passenger cars will be used to form a covered walking route between Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria via the Metrolink network. Single line working will be in use on the remaining tram line...

You'd only need 4½ of them, losing the driving cars.

I know the engines are probably knackered, but it's a shame they're not used on GEML or something similar.

Gauging issues I suppose.

Just a shame to see newer trains being scrapped when we have much older stock still running around. I'd prefer a Eurostar to a Pendolino any day!

It's quoted that they have a very hard paper round so to speak and are pretty much at the point of being life expired in TGV terms - some being retained through heavy refurbishment though.
I thought all trains had to run beyond life expired these days to extract their maximum value and avoid having to buy new rolling stock so soon. Either that or they all get refurbished. Preferably with new seats that are harder and less comfortable. Or am I just being too cynical here?

Unfortunately, Eurostars don't tilt. ;)

I can't see how there could be gauging issues though, as the Eurostar originally had to go through British loading gauge tracks until HS1 was finished.

Yep - don't think there's been any other articulated units operating on the British network in recent history.

The Class 390 fleet is newer than the 373s. And the latter was not cheap to run on the ECML...

I'm sure it'd be great when no other train in the Liv St/Stratford area could draw power if a 373 was departing Liverpool Street or something similar

Which, for a high-speed train, is old enough.

Class 994 units (aka T&W Metro stock) are articulated within each unit and are operating on NR tracks every day.

Might be of interest, but Eurostar today confirmed they are "recycling" their 373s... Which is odd when they also just got delivery of a refurbished 373 power car

What exactly did they mean by "recycling"? Only some of the TMST's are being refurbed for rebranding as e300s.

I too thought that 373 numbers were being reduced but that some were remaining for the foreseeable. If a deal has been signed for refurbishment then that'll still need paying for even if they've decided not to bother doing the work.

Does anyone have any additional information regarding the contract GBRF have to move class 373 sets to these scrapyards? According to today's railways, these should have started in August but I hadn't heard anything.

Thanks in advance.

seems a waste of money to scrap them went to Paris a few weeks ago they seemed OK and went well. I know they have the shiny new ones but I thought they for extended routes

Some of the shorter 373 sets that were used on domestic services in France have already been withdrawn (and possibly scrapped). I'm not sure what the current status is of the Eurostar 373 fleet is.

I thought that all Eurostars getting scrapped got scrapped in a tunnel in France

A tunnel in France? Seems a bit secret. Why not just use a train scrapyard?! If they don't have any then I'm sure Booths will help out!

According to todays railways, europorte will move the units to Calais Frethun yard and GBRF will be responsible for taking them to booths and EMR. It would be interesting to see these workings as 373s aren't common in Warwickshire to say the least.

Today's Railways Europe issue 249 carries a list of which 373s are expected to stay with Eurostar, and also quotes a few withdrawn ones.
