Perhaps there were so many complaints about the seats it was decided to go back to the 319s...

With the exception of 12 cars vs 8 cars, maybe the 319s can take more passengers in crush-loading conditions than Electrostars.

I'd have thought you'd get more people on a 387 than 319 as people take up less room when standing, and there's actually room to move down the aisles to spread out.

More likely Bombardier is worried about the 387s getting wet. Water, wind, snow, sun, people coughing or pressing buttons can all be devastating. ;)

Have seen a few complaints this morning that "Old style Thameslink trains" have been turning up on the BML today where 387's had been pretty consistent. Does that mean that a lot of 387's and 377's are trapped north of the flood or just a revision in diagramming surprising people?

No choice. Most trapped north of Farringdon. Its a case of every single train in service to run and provide at least a service.

On the BML there were 5x 387 diagrams. However not enough 387s so one 8 car 319 filed in for them I believe. I ended up going home on the 8 car 387.

Personally I love the 387's and their seating and am wondering how I can start a campaign to keep them for Southern once the 700's arrive!!

I didn't see any 387s or 377s in service north of St Pancras yesterday.

One of the complaints I heard a number of passengers make was that the trains were only eight cars. The 0741 from Flitwick to St Pancras was formed of 2x319 yesterday, when the usual service at that time is normally 3x377/5. This meant that the same number of passengers turned up as usual and the train left Flitwick full & standing.

Mrs Box Photter was on that train and her comments regarding Thameslink's response to the Great Flood were less than complimentary. (She's also a long-suffering commuter).

Why no 12 car trains? Was it because Thameslink was only using the slow lines for all services yesterday?

Might be due to extended time to change ends and start up a 377&387, may even have ment less trains running. Also it remained in place for this morning so no faffing about to source stock.

Ha ha, that reminds me when i drove an 8VEP on an AM Peak East Grinstead to Victoria just before they were all withdrawn....(East Grinstead services had been fully 377 units for a couple of months by this point).. and myself and the guard had quite a few complaints when we got to Victoria!

Various reasons why. I could talk about them but seeing as your reply the other day I don't really feel like it.

Use of 319s over Electrostars is in part because of the cascade/hire of units.

Is 387113 still working with 387112? Finally caught my first sighting of them today at Farringdon but while I saw 113 on the front, a 377/5 arriving in the platform hid the rear unit from view! :( I could still see the top half of the unit though, so I'm counting it as a legitimate sight if I can confirm what the unit number was :D

Also shame on you techniquest for not getting the 'comfy chair' reference :p

I was on 117 earlier at lunchtime, sounded a bit dodgy under the pan.

Haven't been on a 387 yet, but I know 379s are very loud when they go under neutral sections, certainly compared to other EMUs, could be common to the Electrostar bodyshell?

Just the newer type VCB is very clunky, much worse on 350's

387115 was in service today. 387116 should be in service tomorrow.

At the 50% mark yet.

It's funny that Southern/Thameslink have nearly managed to introduce 2 new fleets in the time it has taken SWT to convert about a third of its 458's. Obviously there have been problems with corrosion etc, but it is an interesting comparison.

Ooh what's the other fleet? (Genuine question) i thought it was just 387's they were bringing out

Swt are a heaven like company compared to govia though imo! The trains on thameslink and gn (i use both) have definitely got a lot dirtier and less timely since they took over, and they were bad enough with first

Is it Bombardier have managed to deliver the new 377/6 and 387's reasonably on time while Wabtec/Alstom haven't, I don't see much relevance to the TOC's

Of course Bombardier are delivering a largely tried and tested design while Wabtec/Alstom are trying to *******ise 2 old trains.

Maybe the lesson is to buy new preferably a tried and tested design, rather than update and *******ise old trains.

Don't forget the 377/7 fleet of course. And the plan is the 387/2 should be commissioned too from September.

Any update on 113/112 from Tuesday? Sorry to persist but I don't know when I'll next get the opportunity to see it again :D

On Tuesday 387112/113 were together all day.
