Does anyone know what the current 387s are at Reading depot (as of yesterday)?

Cheers

I went past yesterday; 387 144* was one of them, plus 387 140**. The other two were in the 387 13x sequence so I didn't note those down but I don't think they were 130 and 131.

*definite

**My notebook is at home so don't take this as gospel until I can look at it tonight.

130 & 131 and 132 & 133 are in traffic on the shuttles.
134, 135, 136 & 137 will be at West Ealing.
138, 139, 140 & 144 are at Reading TCD although 138 & 139 were due to go to WE today, don't know why they haven't gone if they were seen there this pm.
I believe 387141 is still at North Pole, if not it will be at WE.

When I passed earlier, 387141 was still at the far end in North Pole with the pantograph down.

West Ealing is full at present (the day's 4 in traffic units plus 4 stabled) so 141 is (expensively) trapped on North Pole until they can sort out a drag to Reading.

How far off is the electrification from reaching Reading now? (how much is left to put up I mean, not asking how long it'll take, that's anyone's guess!). I assume also once it's done there will need to be extensive testing of the ohle before traffic is cleared to run under it?

When I went up to London yesterday, units 144, 138-140 were at Reading depot, but when I returned 140 was missing. Later on my son said all 4 were there.

Has one been out? Nowt on realtraintimes.

Heathrow Connect trains cancelled again, it's clearly daylight, so why has Hanwell again been relegated to an hourly Reading service instead of the 387's stopping?

AFAIK 387s aren't cleared to call there yet. I imagine the DOO system works ok in the day, but since it would be tricky to have a timetable with some stopping and some not (due to varying daylight hours etc), I guess it won't happen until the lighting is sorted.

They are cleared to call there in daylight hours as I understand it. Disruption expected until 15:45 when it will still be light so no reason for them not to be stopping.

Sorry I re-read my message it was a bit confusing! What I meant was that they are now able to actually call there in daylight, they're just not timetabled to, and I imagine they won't be until the lighting is done. If that makes sense?

Yes, he knows they're not timetabled too, he's asking why they aren't putting Special Stop Orders on the 387s to cover the cancelled Connect services. The answer is I don't know. Have you tweeted GWR?

1) they were barely running as it was because Connect dumped a 360 in 11 and magically lost the driver who was meant to move it, meaning 14 was the only electric relief line platform at Paddington - at least 1 round trip terminated at Acton and others were cancelled outright.

2) Even if HEX hadn't shafted things - They're tightly timed at either end, and with the late running already being incurred running through the track circuit failure at Kensal it'd decimate the train service further stopping the 387s at Hanwell. Much better to put stops in to a service that can absorb the late running such as the Oxford or Reading stopper.

Finally, while yes - 387s are now cleared to use Hanwell during daylight hours it is actively avoided - why? Because during disruption it is easier for everyone to come up with a plan and stick to it, than "do this until X o clock then this until Y o clock" - the plan would have had to change if the disruption continued into darkness.

The consideration of frequency comes down to required capacity versus impact on the wider train service - the big picture is always in play. At that time of day while an hourly service is inconvenient it is ample capacity for the number of customers using Hanwell. Had the disruption continued into the evening peak it might be a different story.

Err... I have boarded 387s for Hayes at platform 5 on one occasion... that was when a Bedwyn was put into platform 11...

Platform 5 is nominally a main line platform. Going from platform 5 to the DR at Ladbroke Grove can be a pain with the overlaps through the junction being quite restrictive.

There are now training paths in place from Reading Traincare depot to Didcot on a daily (weekday) basis. One trip ran today according to RTT.

Anyone have pics?

Not sure any have run yet, the paths have been in for a while but I'm led to believe they'll be starting imminently.
