Door obstruction detection not functioning correctly
To what effect? Will the MK1 guard's eyeball not do as it does on other stock of that vintage?
Door obstruction detection not functioning correctly
normally the obstruction detection would automatically re-open the door when encountering an obstruction. How this was inadvertantly disabled when the stock was converted to DOO I don't know (i'm guessing taking a supply away or providing a supply to a train wire which had an affect on the door system causing this issue)To what effect? It's interesting that trains of this vintage had this feature from new yet the much newer Class 458s try to slice you in half when you get in the way of the doors.normally the obstruction detection would automatically re-open the door when encountering an obstruction. Don’t get in the way of the doors then. The hustle alarms sound for a reason...It's interesting that trains of this vintage had this feature from new yet the much newer Class 458s try to slice you in half when you get in the way of the doors.
I was waiting for some smart Alec to say that. Passengers are just such a nuisance aren't they? Especially when they're less able bodied and may take longer to board or alight than the 10 seconds between the door opening and the auto close kicking. Anyway, we digress...Don’t get in the way of the doors then. The hustle alarms sound for a reason...

458s have auto-close which is not driver or guard controlled to help keep heat in (winter) or heat out (summer). To be fair the guard or driver shouldn't be shutting the doors when people are boarding...

The auto close is much longer than 10 seconds.
Shambolic again. Has any rolling stock been introduced on time and in a reliable condition in the last ten years or so?!
350/3?Shambolic again. Has any rolling stock been introduced on time and in a reliable condition in the last ten years or so?!
Don't they stop closing if someone gets in the way? Do the 165/166 (and possibly 465/466) still slam shut after a few minutes with no warning whatsoever? I haven't been on one for years.458s have auto-close which is not driver or guard controlled to help keep heat in (winter) or heat out (summer).
To be fair, the first lot of 387's were churned out pretty quickly and with not very many problems that I can remember.Shambolic again. Has any rolling stock been introduced on time and in a reliable condition in the last ten years or so?!
Quite. This is what you get by giving contracts to the cheapest bidder.
I know there are several differences between them and the 377s, etc., but they were pretty much a continuation of an established production line.To be fair, the first lot of 387's were churned out pretty quickly and with not very many problems that I can remember.
Perhaps a good example of "if it ain't broke..."I know there are several differences between them and the 377s, etc., but they were pretty much a continuation of an established production line.

Does this suggest that WorstMTR were originally banking on operating these as DOO themselves? If so, that proposal has certainly come back to bite them on the bum.
Maybe something to do with returning them to the leasing company in the condition in which they were leased? Just a guess. Can anybody help me to explain why the jumper covers were removed by Gat Ex, then some were refitted when they went into store but now they have all been removed again. I know that they have had problems with them from the start, but it seems strange why some were refitted, and have been removed before even going back into service. There must be a way of keeping them in the raised position without dropping down while in motion, after all that's part of their character, with the clean, uncluttered front.

One wonders what issue they’ll find with them next. Maybe cab crashworthiness. Or we remain in the EU only for some piece of EU legislation forcing their withdrawal.
It used to be ‘No to 450’. Perhaps next it will be ‘Give us new, Not the 442!’
Shamelessly copied from someone on the internet:
“Ah, Door Problems - remember the old limerick?....
This little Piggy failed at Branksome,
This little Piggy failed at Wool,
This little Piggy had door trouble and,
This little Piggy wouldn't go at all!!”
That's not actually a limerick...
Anyway, are these due to start in proper service soon?
