Stewarts Lane?
can anyone confirm this will be a 455 and not a 387 running the so called Gatwick Express service from London Vic to brighton then 2Z01 BTN to VIC?
Many thanks - gonna try and make it this time as had no notice yesterday lol

They are Southern services not GatEx.

They are newly created trains for Southern.

There are no spare 387s to to do. I know this as I'm helping sort them out.

And there will be a second pair about 30mins later I believe.

I will be going to Purley Oaks to spot 2Z45. The train arrives at East Croydon at 19:00, but doesn't say the estimated pass time at Purley Oaks.

1814 London Victoria-Brighton and 2015 return for the second pair apparently.

Does anyone know what it will work after it gets back to London Victoria? I presume it will just go empty to Selhurst?

Was at clapham junction today & noted a pair of Southern 455's stopping at platform 12. Was this an additional service as I've never seen Southern 455's through 12 before or was it just a re platformed service.

2Z45 shows as passing Purley Oaks platform 4 at 19.02.

The three workings I can see in CCLDB are...
2Z44 18.14 London Victoria to Brighton (19.19)
- calling at East Croydon and Haywards Heath ONLY.

2Z45 18.44 London Victoria to Brighton (19.49)
- calling at Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Haywards Heath and Brighton.

2Z01 20.05 Brighton to London Victoria (21.08)
- calling at East Croydon ONLY.

More workings may be put in the system at some point, particularly moving the second 2x 455 back north to London, but they're not showing right now.

EDIT: Looks like there'll be a 2Z02 20.15 Brighton to London Victoria formed on the second 2x455.

455816 and 455829 on 2Z45 and 2Z01
455812 and 455826 on 2Z44 and 2Z02
(I think, on my phone and struggling to type in the freezing cold)

If there are two sets out i am hoping that there will be an opportunity to photograph both sets together at Brighton.

Indeed, I just posted an update but you may have missed it by the time you posted!

There should be two 2 x 455 sets in Brighton between 19.49 and 20.05 (providing the 19.49 arrival arrives in time - at the moment it has just passed South Croydon 6 minutes late). No platforms given for Brighton as they are STP and will squeeze in around other service trains, so can't be certain they'll be platformed next to each other.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I will keep my fingers crossed that they are put in platforms next to each other. Im on my way now but not 100% sure yet if i will get to Brighton in time.

What time did you see this, because the morning peak Caterham to Victoria services are run by 455's and run on the fast line between East Croydon and London Victoria, therefore stop at Platform 12.

For about 10 minutes there were a pair of 455s on adjacent platforms at Brighton. Who thought we'd ever see that? Not on the buffer stops together unfortunately as one had to share with an MPV.
455816+455829 on the 1844 Victoria-Brighton, 2005 return.
455826+455812 on the 1844 and 2015 return.

That would be a dream come true for me if i were there. Still glad I saw 455 816 and 829 pass me earlier. Can't wait to see more pictures!

They were peak only specials due to lack to of trains due to the planned cancellations. You don't have a peak at weekends so you won't be seeing them at weekends due to no peak then.

All come out of Stewarts Lane and returned

Good to see some photos and videos of these 455s at Brighton. Unfortunately i didnt manage to get to Brighton on time on Friday due to the usual Southern delays and cancellations (i arrived about twenty minutes after both pairs had left). Does anyone know if they are likely to run again today (or at any point this week)?

If they do, a VSTP schedule will be added to RTT, it should be on about 4pm if it runs ;)
It should do, as Southern are starting to introduce their full timetable, whether itll be 455s or 377s is anyones guess.

Thanks for the info. I will keep my eye out on RTT. It would be nice if this becomes a more regular occurance.

It's a shame they weren't used on a Gatwick Express service as that would have given a new meaning to the term premium service! Lol

I'm not so keen on them but the idea of travelling at 75mph on does sound like fun for a one off experience. Still better to use them than no trains and tomorrow they are going to running their full service so will need all the rolling stock they cab muster.

I've certainly never heard any fellow passengers describing the 455s as posh. However I did hear someone describe a 450 as posh. That was subbing in place of a 455.

Doesnt look like they will run today.
Last few times they have been added before 16:44 for 18:44 departure VSTP
Might still get added in the mean time however

Class 377/5 might be able to shed some light, as he works in the planning of these diagrams

Er I don't work in planning. And there was no proper planning of these diagrams, just ad hoc (ie a few hours before). Just to note the warning on here of Friday's run were done literary as it was being arranged to help some of you guys ride the units after missing out on Thursday.

It's not going to happen again as repeatedly stated it was due to some 377s getting damaged by an incident at East Grinstead and a desire to provide additional stock. With the normal timetable coming back the 455s aren't spare and the 377s have all been repaired now.
