Are the 458/5's likely to be transferred to fully operate the Reading route soon?

You asked this in January:

http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=2446547&postcount=3332\

Nothing at all has changed about the 707 delivery dates since. (However since I originally posted this SWT have said during yesterday's webchat that they hope changes may start in April 2017.)

There's also of course the related platform lengthening, and in the Hendy CP5 enhancements milestones (draft) they are not due for completion until May 2017, and there's also the power supply upgrades, also not due until May 2017.

Looks like the translators have been taken up to Wabtec today:

Or indeed the whereabouts of 458516 - is it still at Doncaster?

SWT passenegers comment just above about the translators going up to Wabtec might indicate a move south for it soon?

It was the last unit remaining at Doncaster in the table posted on the 24th. So logically that is what the translator move must be for?

Southbound move is in the system for tonight, starting 1730: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O81837/2016/03/30/advanced

Any new news about the fire damaged unit?

Most of it is still at Wembley, so nothing new to report other than that posted a few weeks ago. There's been a sighting of the split unit reported at Wembley in another forum within the last few days.

I shall be in Wimbledon in 3 weeks time. I may well get a 458/5 from Waterloo to Richmond or Twickenham then a 455 to Wimbledon from there - or a 493 bus as I am due to ride that route anyway.

Meanwhile back in Doncaster, there have been reports that both remaining 460 driving car shells have also now gone to Booths by road, the first two having left a week or so ago.

Hopefully that means no more amazingly complicated proposals for their re-use...

From the photos I've seen, they're well past the point of a return to the mainline! Just the body shells remain after what looks like a thorough component recovery exercise.

Could always be used to give the 442's a more streamlined look, provided they are fitted with pantographs, diesel engines and the bogies from the D-stock, and then Scotrail can have them on their daily excursion to Knottingley!

And fitted between HST power cars, of course!

Still seem to suffering availability problems with three sets short, even with 34 units in traffic. Perhaps just a one off blip though?

There was a 4 car 458 with a missing driving car and some single cars when I went past near the road delivery area a bit later.

Is it more possible that the damaged driving car from 518 has returned and the substitute driving car from 501 has been removed from 518 etc. ?
(or vice versa?)

Ah, yes, that will be more likely.

A poster in wnxx reported that 458518 had been observed in original formation by 11th April.

I'd have thought given the circumstances, I would expect it to be very thoroughly tested before re-entering service.

I hope someone tests the PIS for the No smoking announcement.

Once 458501 has been certified ready to re-enter service will that finally be all the 458s in service with the exception of those having routine maintenance or breakdowns?
