70 007 is powering towards Southampon Docks, taken about an hour ago just outside of Basingstoke:

It's a mixture of bodyshells:

Class 67 windscreen
Class 58 thin body
Class 66 buffers n bottom front.

"Freightliner" bosses could of said they don't like the design & had them redrawn before being built. How many "ugly's" are going to be created till the class is complete..?

I think the inner half of the cabs is also off a 58. The front half of the cab obviously does not belong with the rest of the cab. Looks like a bad example of cobbling something together with paintshop pro. The first wagon+box behind the loco looks quite nice meaty yet PROPORTIONED.

Looks as if the Turkish 70099 is due to come to the UK sometime soon.

Off topic but freightliner 66412 move to Poland looks as if its back on as it has moved to leeds midlands road. Anymore freightliner 66s planning to be exported to Poland later this year/next year.

Co-Co wheel arrangement rather than a Bo-Bo arrangement.

A Co-Co class 68 sounds very interesting, would probably make a good loco for mixed use, and could possibly be uprated to 125 in the future if it where required. (In the eurolight/uklight specs it says a 125mph version is available, I wonder what the performance would be like)

Out of modern frieght Locos my favorite for sound has to be 60's

What livery does 70 099 have..? If different from the standard FL livery will it get repainted once here.

Yum Yum; BBQ kebab in addition to BBQ Bones ... It should be named kebab for when it burns and painted in green salad colour

70099's currently in the Bay of Biscay...

Hopefully they'll leave it there, best place for it :|

Is this a new fire precaution measure?! Total immersion in the sea, just in case?! :)

And there was I thinking how handsome those pics made them look!

We are clearly discussing different photos then!

Turkish class 70,where is it's final destination? ie,where it will be working.By the looks of the numbering this looks as though 70 001 to 70 100! 100 of those, and 66's redeployed to Poland? What's going on? DBS may get rid of the 66's in favour of a mix Vossloh types built for the UK.

Does anyone have any info on what time and day its being dragged to Brush (Loughborough)? Be good to get a snap of it fresh in the country.

Thanks

According to WNXX it'll arrive later today at Newport and will be unloaded tomorrow, looks like movement to Brush is still being arranged but Freightliner will haul it there probably tomorrow once it is unloaded.
It's still just of Tintagel moving slowly towards Bude, must be waiting for the tide to turn

And how has the performance of the class been recently? Do they still justify all the fire jokes (did they ever)? Any other problems?

High tide at Avonmouth was 0822, ship is making 10 knots and has roughly 70 miles to run so I think she will not be berthing until this evenings tide. Won't be a smooth ride in, a strong blow is coming up the Bristol Channel this morning.

The vessel SUDKAP currently conveying 70099 is currently approx 35 miles to run to newport doing 6.3 kts on a heading of 11 degrees manuovering past a tanker as i type this. AIS is a wonderful peice of kit. i reakon she should be alongside by 8pm unless she goes to anchor.

As of 18:33 less than 15nm to run to Newport doing 15kts

I think most would agree that fire jokes are/were well and truly justified!

Well, after yesterdays performance i think they are & will continue. I gather that there was an event down at Maritime yesterday celebrating 40 or so years of Freightliner. Train left with 'repeat offender' 70019 on the front, with a repainted box on the rear repainted specially into the original livery for the event. Said 70 left Martime ontime before reaching... Northam before bursting / failing. Cue FL 66516 to the rescue again...

Still, had it caught fire, im sure Someone in Freightliner could have brought the BBQ Suasages out ;)

Few pictures of 70019 & The specially repainted containter over on WNXX

"Freightliner had a small ceremony at Maritime on the 15th celebrating 40 years at Southampton and the installation of two new cranes. A specially bulled up 70019 headed the train including special liveried container (who thought white was appropriate for a sea going container). Alas it didn't get far, 70019 failing at Northam Junction and blocking the up line for over an hour till being rescued by 66516 which dragged the whole lot northward." I Knight

would i be correct in thinking that 099 will have to get yellow warning panels painted on or is it just getting dragged to say the GCR for it's evaluation whilst it's here and running about on private lines.

I'm not saying it is going to the GCR. Just using it as an example before i get anyone excited.

Class 70 Naming List for fun:

"Given that the Class 70 represents a quantum leap in technology over previous designs entering the UK market, Freightliner intends to name their locomotives after great icons of 1970′s Britain. The 70′s saw the growth of the Freightliner brand across the UK and as such we feel that it would be a fitting tribute to a great period for our locomotives to carry names and slogans from a decade that sowed the seeds of our current success.

70 001 ‘Tony Blackburn’

70 002 ‘Dave Lee Travis’

70 003 ‘Three Day Week’

70 004 ‘Red Robbo’

70 005 ‘British Leyland’

70 006 ‘Joe Gormley’

70 007 ‘National Coal Board’

70 008 ‘Everybody Out’

70 009 ‘Ted Heath’

70 010 ‘The Sweeney/ D.C.I Hunt’

70 011 ‘On The Buses’

70 012 ‘I’m Backing Britain’

70 013 ‘Dick Emery’

70 014 ‘Benny Hill’

70 015 ‘Rod Hull & EMU’

70 016 ‘Fanny Craddock’

70 017 ‘Galloping Gormet’

70 018 ‘Watneys Red Barrel Party Seven’

70 019 ‘Double Diamond’

70 020 ‘Slade’

70 021 ‘Status Quo’

70 022 ‘Demis Russos’

70 023 ‘Sid Vicious’

70 024 ‘Debbie Harry’

70 026 ‘Grunwick’

70 027 ‘Jim Callaghan’

70 028 ‘Crisis? What crisis?’,

70 029 ‘Winter of Discontent’

70 030 ‘Margaret Thatcher’.

In the tradition of the British Rail ‘Britannia’-class steam locomotives, 70025 will remained unnamed for the time being, since we have been advised by our legal team that naming a locomotive ‘Gary Glitter’ is likely to be unpopular. Research is ongoing as to whether ‘Michael Jackson’ would be an acceptable substitute."

Not sure, but it's due to run to Crewe tonight before being dragged down to Brush Loughborough sometime this week. So probably this evening / tommorow at a guess.

Few pictures of 099 (Sorry, 7009 9) over on WNXX.

http://www.wnxx.com/content/171012/70099.htm

Should be dragged to Crewe behind a 66/5 tonight, and as it's being dragged, shouldn't need any yellow paint.

The all-over military green is an improvement, it seems to disguise the awful styling a little.

As for the Freightliner do, somebody was taking a huge gamble using a 70 as the star turn! :|
