Will these units have DOO cameras?
I was just thinking that too. I think this must be a work in progress because the cameras, some stickers and the front skirt are also missing. Will these units have DOO cameras?
A unit was on test today at Derby - 4th November. These look so much better than the crossrail units.
If I am allowed to nitpick however, the fact that the interior of the light surround is still orange looks a bit rubbish. I think they'd also benefit from a strip of white above the windows (making the black a window band) as per the 378s, unless of course this is applied later as a vinyl, as I note that it is still devoid of the orange strip along the top of the blue bit.
Also interesting to see just how large the cab bulkhead appears to be, based on the distance between the window and the cab door, something that is masked quite well on the 345s.

The renders which were shown before didn't have a white band above so I'd be very very very surprised if this appears.
With regards the bulkhead I'd retain judgement until the interiors are seen as the saloon may extend a way beyond that window so the bulkhead may not be quite so thick. The 345s have doors immediately behind the cab so I think that's how it's disguised so well.
I would expect stickers to be missing at this stage, but the lack of cameras is odd. Presumably they'll be fitted in the rectangular area that seems to be slightly proud of the surface in your second photo, but that would seem quite low down compared with other stock.
I looked up the renders after posting and you're right, looks like the black extends all the way up the body. And yes, the saloon does probably extend beyond that window by some distance, but it seems odd that they didn't then put in a smaller window or something. I wonder if they've gone for the maintenance friendly approach of a single window size for all?
The circular windows on the doors remind me of Networker doors, which is probably why they seem older. I do like that design though.I do like a unique looking train and I like the look of the 710, but is it just me or do the external doors (and on the 345) look quite outdated. The doors make the 710 look older than the 378 to me. Mainly because I think Electrostars do look very modern - although trust me, I'm not a 378 fan. I just think the 378 looks like it has been built more recently. Apart from the front end, although even the front end of a 378 looks quite new.
What do you suppose was built then?I agree that 700s look older than 387s but they certainly do not look older than the nasty decrepit 319s. Awful trains - should never have been built.
So you would prefer an infrequent 1st-gen DMU service only between St Pancras and Bedford?I agree that 700s look older than 387s but they certainly do not look older than the nasty decrepit 319s. Awful trains - should never have been built.
Agreed.so, rather than discussing a teenagers favourite train, when is the first unit going to be seen in mainline testing?

Much like one I overheard the other day on a 345. "Yeah I'm on one of the new ones.. <pause>, nah they're s**t, they've got the seats like on the overground"
At the time the train being fully laden, the transverse seats were obscured from view.
Nonetheless, boarding a peak time 315 at Stratford immediately tells you why it is how it is. Seeing the load levels on LO services opposite me when I depart Liverpool Street for the evening it is similarly appropriate for those routes too.
Has an actual seating plan for the 710/1 been published yet?
Yes, as a result it also seems odd to me that the trains into Euston have only longitudinal seats, whereas the S8, which continues around the inner circle, has some transverse ones

There is a world of difference in construction, the 319 is a through gangwayed version of the 321.So you would prefer an infrequent 1st-gen DMU service only between St Pancras and Bedford?
Also there is very little difference between a 317 and 319.
There is very little difference in the passenger experience of a 14 year old. There is a world of difference in construction, the 319 is a through gangwayed version of the 321.
