We (Drivers) Have received our first familiarization material on the 710s regarding driving, TCMs usage and an opportunity to drive the simulators...A course length has been agreed also. Here are some shots of the interior (renders) from the material. Strangley enough we will be using a slightly darker moquette than the 378s. Happy to answer any questions (tones of material)

As of today all west anglia stations now have 710 stop boards and balaise beacons for the CSDE/SDO.
Good news that thing are progressing, thanks.

Having plug doors instead of sliding doors makes the interior so much neater, with no need for the door pockets

Will they not regret not ordering 5-car units in the first place - again ?

I wouldn't think so. The WA routes can't take 10 car trains, the DC lines supposedly only need 4 cars (but they got 5 for commonality) and the capacity increase on the GOBLIN is very large anyway. They might need a 5th car later down the line, but given the current state of TfLs finance, it's very much a "what we need now" frame of mind

The Watford dc will be 4 car.

The only 5 car 710's are for the N/WLL.

And doesn't there need to be a complete redesign of Gospel Oak for anything longer than a 4 car?

Oh so there will be 5-car 710s, albeit only six...
Also, why the erratic numbering of the 710/2s ? 256-272...

The gap between 710 131 & 710 256 is to differentiate the AC-only and dual-voltage units, presumably to allow wiggle room in either series should the need for further orders arise. For example, if TfL want to order more 710/2s, they can add units from 255 downwards; likewise if they want to order more 710/1s, they can add units from 132 upwards.

That allows for all of the options on the /1s to be taken up and then have continuous numbering -ie 710154, 155, 256, 257... (much like LM had with the 350s)

I don't know the rationale behind it, but it is something that they've done with the 378s (avoiding duplication of the last 2 digits) as well, so there is a historical precedent.

I can see the logic, but I mean 101 and 201 are two completely different numbers...

The new 5 cars are to allow for a shuffle round of existing NLL and ELL units mainly to increase ELL service frequencies using suitable dual voltage 378 units already fitted with front end emergency doors. The West Anglia LO routes, the DC lines (at 4 tph) and Goblin are all to be 4 car railways (or 8 car in multiple).

The TfL quote back in post #35 of this thread explains.

A press event before a service entry date is confirmed, I look forward to what will be announced.
LM have signed a deal for the 172s to stay at LO for some time yet. Bigger cheque than interest in the September strengthening they had planned one assumes.

London Midland was taken over by WM Trains six months ago.

Why has the seat (and floor) covering gained a green tint - green is not part of the brand colours?

And the West Midlands franchise will not be operating Class 710s.
