MR is correct. I would be very surprised to see any journey time reductions, particularly on the Cov corridor end, though you may get the odd 30s up towards Rugeley. Any tidying up will be done post full introduction, May 25 at the earliest I would guess.

As I understand it, 6tph on the Cross City Line is not possible at Kings Norton with 2tph on the Camp Hill Line unless the unused platforms are brought back into use. The unused platforms are used by freight trains and passenger trains which do not stop at Kings Norton.
I believe the plan would be to bring cross city trains into P2. Convert P3 into a bay and P4 will see much less traffic stop on it.

Quote, outside in works yard:
"a number of gangway ends and bodysides in green waiting to enter the assembly plant"
If there are still these componants sitting outside, it would suggest to me that actual construction of 730 vehicles has not yet actually finished, as these bits will need to be put together with body parts and underframes. We were led to beleive that actual construction at Derby had ceased some weeks ago, but it would seem from this that it has simply slowed down - perhaps they are now short of staff?

I had my first ride on a 730 on Saturday 16/03. Yes the seats are hard and a bit on the narrow side but they are designed for short hops. The room that this layout presents is good and perfect for the Cross City line when the eventually get introduced on it.

Can't be long now till the cross city starts seeing these now. Mr photo opportunity himself claims it will be 'very soon'.

Yep Street’s Tory newspaper just says this spring
“BRAND NEW ELECTRIC TRAINS COMING TO THE CROSS CITY LINE:”
“New Class 730 electric trains will arrive on your Cross-City platform this spring as part of a £700m investment in new fleets and infrastructure by West Midlands Railway.”
“The fleet of 48 brand-new electric trains will double capacity on the Cross City Line and offer better quality and more sustainable journeys.”

How does driver training work as I can’t see any q headcodes on rtt today on cross city? Presumably driver traing has started. Clearly 4 Euston and1 Walsall- Wolves already running as also runs out of Crewe.
Can drivers be trained on the units without being on the line on which they will operate?

You can do the traction training elsewhere but if you sign the route already you'll be expected to take the train out and drive to the conditions without any more training :)

Two 730/0s currently being stabled at Rugby.

A great number of 730/0s at Bletchley, including 730001 and one that has been graffitied.

A few 730/0s at Camden outside Euston, 730002 and 730046 among them. 5Q93 1550 London Euston to Bletchley T.M.D is a 730, saw it leave Euston.

5Q67 1000 Derby to Oxley ran today (12.04.24) rather late departing at 1345 ! Presumably conveying a new 730, can anyone confirm number please?

Four of the 730/2's have made their way to Camden this week for storage, 212 and 217 were there first and they were joined by two others on Wednesday. Looking at the list above it would be two of 205/210/211.

Does this mean they’ve been accepted, or is it simply that space is at a premium at Oxley?

My guess is the latter. Rail Operations Group Drivers moved them down to Camden, Alstom techs will still keep an eye on them and turn them on every 30 days, Alstom have also paid for security at Camden to try and discourage the local vandals.
No WMT Drivers course has been agreed yet, neither a 3 to 5 conversion course or a straight 5 car course. Plans (training and method of work) are still being worked on to allow the 730's to be maintained at Willesden until the works have finished at Bletchley.

Yes, 06:07 off Birmingham to Lichfield apparently.
That would give the following workings

0607 Birmingham New Street to Lichfield Trent Valley
0709 Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove
0830 Bromsgrove to Lichfield Trent Valley
1009 Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove
1129 Bromsgrove to Lichfield Trent Valley
1309 Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove
1429 Bromsgrove to Lichfield Trent Valley
1609 Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove
1729 Bromsgrove to Lichfield Trent Valley
1909 Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove
2029 Bromsgrove to Lichfield Trent Valley
2209 Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove
2331 Bromsgrove to Birmingham New Street

Ah right, that's useful to know, thanks!

Any chance there will be one running next weekend (assuming nothing goes catastrophically wrong tomorrow)
There's one diagram on Walsall-Wolverhampton over the weekend if there's none on the cross-city. It's the one that includes 10:07 Walsall-Wolverhampton on a Saturday, I'm unsure of Sundays.

So, is this going to be a 730 or a 323?

730

any idea when the 730s will be serving Redditch now that they will start serving Bromsgrove and Lichfield?
Not cleared for Redditch at the moment due to issues with the platforms 3 & 4 at Barnt Green.
