Closing (and locking) First Class

On my travels today, I saw a guard enter the FC compartment (this was a Southern 377) and turf someone out, obviously with an STD ticket.

But then he switched the automatic internal door system off, shut the doors manually, and locked them with his key. This seemed to be to stop the passenger (or anyone else) from entering FC. But what would a passenger with a FC ticket do in this situation (other than walking to the other end of the train)?

i used to lock the 1st class behind me on late trains out of Kings Crooss when i drove for WAGN on 365's,so i did'nt have to put up with the noise caused by p*ssed up t*ssers!

Which doesnt quite answer the question - which is ironic seeing how you just moaned at someone else for not doing so fully in a thread you just made.;)

If there is an FC customer who wants to use FC accommodation then it will be unlocked. I know some drivers choose to where possible, on late trains, to stop the possibility of rowdy drunks sat right behind them.

Im fully aware of what drivers do on late night DOO services so no need to roll your eyes. But if you fully didnt understand what i was getting at then ill leave it there - some people want it both ways.

I think if I'd paid for a first class ticket I would object to having to find a member of staff to let me into the accomodation I'd paid for.

Well would you really? Or would you want FC full of People who have STD? Personally I tend not to lock it out.

The 365s and 377s have first class at both ends so it shouldn't be a problem if the FC comartment immediately behind the driver is locked out. Far better that the train reaches its destination safely than have the driver constantly distracted by drunken yobs (which as mentioned on this thread already probably don't have FC tickets).

On the 0136 out of King's Cross, I doubt there are many FC ticket holders - yet FC at both ends is usually full. I wonder why!

But if the passengers in first class at the opposite end are harrassed by drunken yobs that's Ok as long as the driver isn;'t being disturbed?:roll:

The best of the two evils is to have some passengers annoyed, rather than to have a driver that gets annoyed/distracted by something going on behind him and e.g. SPADs - surely!

So you've got a first class ticket between two concecutive stations, you then spend your entire journey truin to find the guard to unlock the door. Great
