Mod note: Please take care when posting; any speculation should be reasonable, proportional and clearly identified as such.

As this incident is being reported in the mainstream media, we need to ensure speculation posted here isn't picked up and reported as fact.

Additionally, this is a fast-moving thread and thus the forum team can't keep on top of all posts in real-time. If you see anything that concerns you, please use the Report functionality.

A GWR has derailed in tunnel approaching Salisbury and a SWR has hit it. One train on its side.

One driver apparently trapped. Prayers with them, and hope to God that no one seriously injured.

Twitter reporting that the incident is in Fisherton tunnel.
Yes. Coastguard Helicopter is in attendance

Wiltshire Live now reporting the crash

Emergency services including an air ambulance, police helicopter and the Coastguard were called to the scene near Fisherton Tunnel at around 7. 20pm.

Wiltshire Today understands a passenger train – with passengers on board – struck an object inside the tunnel before leaving the track and partially overturning.

A train is reported to be on its side. Hopefully all are well and safe at what must be a very difficult time.

Reports of a 4 car unit derailing and splitting, with a service heading in opposite direction hitting one of the other units.

Yes it appears all passengers are fine with minor injuries, but the driver currently trapped so let’s all hope he is able to be freed.

Hope everyone okay. Also hope the train isn't too busy as many services today and tonight very overcrowded due to all the disruption throughout the network.

I've seen one report that all passengers ok on the SWR but unknown on the GWR service, have you heard different? Extremely anxious now as I know a few of the Salisbury and Westbury crews.

Afaik it's a 5 car unit, and that 1L53 hit 1F30 from the rear.

Thankfully linespeed is slow around the tunnel so hopefully this means a better chance of people being ok.

If correct both trains would ordinarily be travelling in the same direction?

From the OpenTrainTimes map, Up train 1F27 is also stopped in the area, just Romsey-side of the triangle. Might just be coincidental, if an emergency call put the signals to red.

Hearing that 1L53 has indeed run into the rear of 1F30.

I’m not familiar with the area at all, is it a 4 track arrangement?
