The police, etc., who think we’re so stupid that they reverse the lettering on their cars so that they show up “correctly” in our mirrors. What is there about a car with blue flashing lights that we don’t otherwise recognise?

I suspect, along with most other vehicle offences, most enforcement is in the form of MOT failure. As for Police enforcement? Probably very rarely as a standalone offence, but if you attract their attention enough to warrant them stopping you it'll probably get picked up
I know a police officer who stopped a woman motorist three times in a month for illegal number plates. The first two times he let her off with a warning with the instruction to change them. On stopping her the third time she gave him some verbal abuse about persecuting the motorist etc. So what could have been no fine, or maybe a fixed penalty fine, she got booked and ended up in court.

Years ago, I knew someone who was involved in a sort of Mexican stand-off with the Police.
Basically, they were in a private car park (like Aldi, Asda or whatever) and a police traffic patrol spotted the reg plate.
They drove in and said the number was illegal and was going to book him.
This was a bad move by the officers as they shouldn't have said anything and just waited outside as they were ready to depart.
My friend knew the law and said something on the lines of 'well, go on, book me then'.
They said they would book him as soon as he left the car park.
Police waited about 15mins before speeding off.

Although, generally, car parks of the sort you refer to are not “private” and people can be prosecuted for regular road offences in them. From memory, if they’re not gated and freely accessible from the road then they’re fair game.

I see JD Vance & his wife flew 6 hours each way to Greenland in Air Force 2 just to spend a few hours there. This is what really irritates me, especially when I’m made to feel guilty (which I don’t) taking my once/year holiday flight.

I doubt that Vance, - or any of the current US autocracy care about the impact of travel on the global environment, indeed they are even having removal of all previous legislation to promote more carbonisation.

April Fool threads on Facebook.

Whether you like April Fool‘s is up to you. Some are downright silly and pretty obvious they aren’t real, whereas some have been extremely well thought out and could be quite plausible. At the end of it they are just a bit of fun.

What irritates me are those who on reading the Facebook thread take delight in informing everyone it is an April Fool. If you know (or think) it’s an April Fool just keep it to yourself. Don’t be a spoilsport.

Went for my biannual visit to the car wash today.

There was four cars in font of me.

Mine was filthy, the Micra in font of me was dirty....the other three (large) cars were immaculate!

Why do people waste money, time and natural resources on having something done that isn't needed?

Some people clearly aren't being taxed enough...

I no longer have a car, but in all the years I did, I only went to a car wash once and that was because my son wanted to see what it was like to go through one.
To note, I did clean the glass, lights and numberplate regularly - those are safety critical and a legal requirement. Nothing else seemed to get any dirtier after the first month.

I find you generally have two toasting options with those:

One lap of the conveyor: briefly waved under a 40 watt light bulb
Two laps: cast into the fires of Mount Doom
A little late to the party here.... it's actually possible to adjust the settings on those things. They generally have two dials - one for belt speed, one for heat output. The restaurants, quite reasonably, put covers on so that the general public can't mess with the settings, but unfortunately they seem to put them on 'warm bread' mode and then never change them.

And newspaper headlines that say something like "UK hotter than Ibiza/Spain/Mexico/wherever" yet when the UK temperature drops back down to its seasonal average you never see the headline "UK a lot colder than Ibiza/Spain/Mexico/wherever"!
The BBC are at it again.

“Parts of UK set to be hotter than the Algarve”

I'm sure it's not the first time it's been mentioned, but lazy journalism resulting in misleading headlines like the one below.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwy0399zmlzo

No trams between stations due to 'essential work'

Passengers have been warned there are no trams between two stations on the West Midlands network due to "essential works".

This gives the impression it's literally just the service between two consecutive 'stations' which have been cancelled, the next line however says it's actually closed between Wednesbury and Wolverhampton, a total of 9 'stations'.

People, typically tourists, taking a photo of friends / family on a busy thoroughfare that has lots of passing pedestrians, where those pedestrians would in normal circumstances pass between photographer and photgraphee, and then when said pedestrian(s) stop to permit the photographer to take the photo, the photographer takes about 20 sconds to take it.

TAKE THE DAMN PICTURE!

Not really comedy; I'm getting fed up of dogpoo bags - full ones - being left in my garden. Not only that, they leave them on the wall of next door. And nothing can be done, personally I'd rather the dogs did it on the grass verge, no-one walks on that anyway, and their leftovers will decompose naturally quicker than left in a bag.

What is it with some people??

In the woods around Hebden Bridge some people leave them hanging from tree branches. How quaint and picturesque!

And it used to be articles of underwear! Or so I read!

But joking aside, it's got to be a serious health risk, especially if kids are playing. As I wrote, I'd rather them do "it" off piste than have all these bags lying around. I've never been a big fan of dogs anyway, so I would grumble.

This is something I'd really like to know. Just what goes through peoples mind to go through the procedure of bagging it, then simply leaving it on the path. What do they actually think is going to happen to it? Do they think they are doing the right thing by bagging it, then someone will come along and remove it?

On bin day when I leave my bin out, that's sometimes used for the bags. Don't mind that so much, as long as they don't burst/open; made me wonder if it's worthwhile leaving a smaller bin at the end of my garden permanently so the lazy so-and-so's can use that and I empty it weekly. Bet they couldn't be bothered to open the lid of that either.

I have been told by a dog walker that he leaves the poo bag hanging in a tree because he doesn't want to carry it around all day and that he collects and disposes of it correctly as he nears home at the end of the walk

Why do you say “nothing can be done”?

If someone was leaving dog poo bags in my garden, I’d be watching out the window (or have a camera rigged up), and when seeing who it was be out there waiting with a large garden fork ‘tending to the flowers’.

Its a thought as is following them and posting their list item. However I don't want confrontation which would probably escalate
I suppose of on the pavement I can chalk round them!

Many people say that's their intent. Most of them forget, come home by an alternative route, or were being economical with the truth.

I think if they did it twice I would follow them home and leave some non-dog poop on their doorstep, see how they like it. Fortunately I have a friend with a pet Bull ;)

Question because I don't know if this is possible. If we brought back the licence, chipped every dog, matched the chip, licence to the dogs DNA, could that help trace irresponsible owners?

I was sent a cheque. Barclays closed my local branch, so I tried to pay it in from their app. It opens my phone camera, shows a guideline box over the cheque. It then takes a photo which is usually taken at an angle of 30 degrees, and misses the corners of the cheque, so it image is rejected, but eventually works after 10 attempts.

In this case, the cheque had been printed at the bottom of some A4 paper so it didn't even take a photo. I tried folding the paper to the size of the guidelines, but it was never accepted.

After 20 minutes failing to get the app to work, and another 10 minutes messaging and phoning them, I found that I could still pay in the cheque at a Post Office.
