Had the passenger been able to buy the ticket before 0930 from a TVM, they might not have even considered that it wasn't valid on the 0926, even with an extra screen to show the restriction, which may have caused problems on the train (something along the lines of "So why does the machine sell a ticket that isn't valid! That's stupid!")
Ahem, this already happens regularly in Greater Manchester (plus the few other places where Northern as was implemented evening restrictions in such a foolish way), as perfectly well you know.
