THe seat and brakes are currently the most important things, but to just replace the front brake (using the old disc) is gonna be about £70

Looks like it's time to try and work more shifts :p

Too true, I could do with a new bike, but I love my current one. If i did get a new one it would be something rather expensive like a Saracen Zen 360 or a Saracen Kili Flyer, both over a grand.

I got a Beartooth Mountain Bike last year for £60s on ebay brand new in the box delivered i gave it to my freind for christamas last year as it was too small for me despite being a 21inch frame.

ASDA have Full Suspension Mountain Bikes for £85s !

Also i have 2 70x35c Brand New Never been Used Tyres for sale at just £10s if anyone is intrested.

Also Fusion Rail i do hapen to have a seat that has never been used i will try and upload a photo of it and if you whant it its yours for cost of postage of course.

Yeah, you can get even cheaper full suspension mountain bikes from sports direct from £50 upwards. They won't last too long thougfh and the ride quality aint too good either......OK though for basic use, but watch out for flaws.

EDIT: Me thinks this post could be moved to general discussion?

Hmmm...That reminds me, I've been meaning to fix my own bike for over a year now!:lol:

Admittedly though - Aside from me being a cheapskate who can't afford the stuff anyway, I've never really been able to get along with a lot of the more specialised equipment that I've seen the more dedicated cyclists using here and there. As a rule, it's either far too light, far too flimsy, or far too expensive for my tastes... :|
Personally, I just stick with a single steel-framed mountain bike for all of my cycling needs. Although I appreciate that a heavy frame and off-road tyres aren't really ideal for road use, they're still perfectly legal, I can still manage a little bit o' grunt despite being on 15/day, and I don't have to pfaff about for ages changing between road and off-road tyres if I decide to cut across country! :D

Incidentally...Has anyone ever managed to fit a trains air-horn to a bicycle and have it fully working on there? <D

Ah yeh off road tyres arent that great for on road use! I leave them on, it was just for a specific meet id change them to make the bike a bit nippier :D

Train horns? you'd need the compressor, and a large battery to run it, whih woud be proper heavy. so no i would expect :p

Ahh...I'm just too lazy when it comes to things like that. Besides, off-road tyres give much better traction and are better for multi-modal use than the piffly little things one finds on road bikes. :D

Given what I'm like when it comes to accelleration and braking, off-road tyres are a better choice for me, even though they lead to a little reduction in top-end... <D

Actually, a mechanical compressor driven off of the back wheel and a small air reservoir should be able to fit without too much trouble, I would've thought.
I'd love to have a 43's horn fitted to mine though - Especially with the fun and games one could have by sounding it on the approach to a gated but open level crossing! <D

My horns run off a compressor, battery driven. Given some trial and error, you coud probably make it, or its bigger brothers power a train horn! :D

I use slightly overinflated slicks on my bike, because almost all of my cycling is in the city and they're incredibly fun when it's muddy or snowy :D

I deflate them a little when going offroad, or sometimes change the back tyre.

The train horns would be possible, but would probably need a trailer. There's a guy in Edinburgh with a car battery and some speakers on a trailer he sometimes uses.

Actually, if someone wants to provide me with a train horn (just the horn) I bet you I can do it with no need for a trailer, spending over £5 or any large batteries.

I'm loving this horn idea. Just have a big red button on your handle bars instead of a bell, too! That'll give nasty drivers a nice surprise :)!

Currently its a green switch :P, but Im removing them this week for fitting to the SuperTandem Mk3, which as you may guess with my tack record with bikes, is going to be stupid. Yes, it does have dixie horns, 2 tone horns, 240v generator, kettle, fog lights, brakelights, dashboard, etc etc. More to come during the week!

Hmmm...Once ye have all of that stuff aboard, ye'll have effectively built a pedal-driven Goldwing!

Mind ye, I'd love to see some photos of that once ye've got it done! 8)

--- Topical froth above / Unrelated froth below: ---

Whilst I've got a post on (As the chat section - Where I'd normally post this - Has now closed) I'll take the opportunity to say that I'm now taking a haitus from internet forums after a situation that arose on another board, so posts from me may be few and far between until further notice.

The main reason for this - Aside from the fact that my keyboard has a knackered space-bar, and it's now impossible for me to write legible posts on my PC - Is because I need to shift all of my social group activities into the real world if possible. I'll still be lurking here from time to time to keep up with news and meets, but that'll be the main bulk of my board access for the interim. <D

If anyone is interested in a cycle ride along the Waskerley Way and/or a ride from Sunderland to Stockton (the times of which connect with the first ex-London Grand Central and the last GC to London) please say so below, we are about to set a date for the rides (possibly in June) :)

Also we have arranged rides in Cheshire and the Peak District in April - anyone interested please reply below too :)
