Sat in Stratford Rail Station today we noticed a group of police officers outside the station pulling over electric bikes for an inspection. They were confiscating any they decided were illegal and sending the riders on their way. When we left to catch our train they had six or seven piled up.
Lots of them are modified to hit 35 or more, souped up motors and batteries and therefore classed as motorbikes and require some sort of registration and insurance. I'm more against the ubiquitous Lime bikes which litter the pavements, are easily hacked like Spurs' defence, whilst no one seems to maintain or regulate them. Most are used for "trapping" by low level dealers. Not so many police around to deal with this, and most councils are broke or on verge of collapse (see Birmingham pre bubonic plague due to no waste collection)

Lots of the E Bikes have badly made batteries which can suddenly catch fire due to cheap chargers. I guess the cops are confiscating electric scooters as well?

I was pretty certain that I saw a poster put in a prominent frame stood just in front of the ticket barriers at Norwich station a few weeks ago saying that they were banned - I took notice of this because I found it notable - and Greater Anglia’s web-site confirms this:

The version of the GA website that I can see only refers to e-scooters being banned on their trains (and electric cycles, presumably meaning e-bikes, not being allowed on rail replacement buses).

The National Rail site also only refers to e-bikes being restricted on Elizabeth Line and London Overground trains (both of which are, of course, TfL services), where it says only folding e-bikes are allowed.

Indeed, GA seem to have quietly corrected their website to align with RDG's policy for National Rail services (i.e. unregulated micro-mobility devices are not permitted, but e-bikes are permitted).

In contrast to post #12, the GA website now states (my strikethrough):

On the train

For fire safety reasons, e-scooters and e-bikes are not allowed on our trains.
