Would it be possible/viable to temporarily increase the max speed on the 90s to 125mph?

Better than a 91 over some of the speed range, up to 68mph infact. 0-110 there isn't much in it.
What you have to remember is that this time around the traffic is massively more dense. There's EC, HT, GC all operating, in EC's case with a greater number of services than back in the 1990s. So having a 110mph train amongst a dense pattern of 125mph services is potentially a problem. If it runs late then it's going to delay services behind and that has the potential to cause knock delays for some time.
The EMT is no longer hired, its with EC permanently
I don't think the Freightliner 90s have the UIC connectors for TDM which are needed for working with Mk4s. Mk4s don't use the RCH jumpers for TDM like the Mk3s and Mk2s do.
90003 has evidently shown up at Bounds Green.
So you are saying 90003 is what East Coast are hiring?

Just a update, there is now no chance of a Class 90 being used by East Coast
Can anyone honestly say they're surprised by this outcome? Still would have been nice (from an enthusiasts point of view) to have something a bit different on the ECML for once.
Sort of. Could have gone either way in my mind, but a hired HST makes more sense really when you think about it.
All is not lost though - They've managed to secure the loan of 125mph rolling stock by hiring in another East Midlands Trains HST set while the Class 91s undergo their heavy overhaul programme.
Just thought I update everyone,
I don't think the HST loan is long-term as it means EMT would be screwing themselves over...
Hmmm. Wouldn't you say that when the DfT created the routes and territories for each TOC, which included the ECML franchise with 8 terminal stations*, half of which have no OHLE, then isn't the use of some HSTs rather a sensible choice? The use of a HST set is really defeating the object of having OHLE!

I did. Which I regret, particularly as I quite like Hull. Its certainly undeserving of the neglect that it recieves in the public mind.9 Dave as you've forgotten sunny Hull from your list

I've seen its ambassador, the Mouth of the Humber (aka J Prescott) travel on EC from time to time, so I have no excuse for omitting Hull.
