Very few left, I believe that on passenger work east coast Inverness and, if they still have it, the Sunderland crew for GC lodging at kings cross are the only 2 left. May be a couple more but they arnt very common.

Do Hull Trains still have lodging turns? I remember when they first started up it was the full crew who lodged on the last arrival at the cross

No disrespect to the Information Controller chappy at Newcastle Central, i'm sure he's a conscientious and hard working fellow... However i got the impression from his irreverent grin the other evening at Newcastle - as we departed - he was more interested in smiling at sleepy and some disgruntled passengers as if to say 'i am the bloke off the telly...'

Did he care that the train was running 4 hours late? I would like to hope so, but i'm not so sure...
He was probably to busy watching football to realize you were late.

Not sure they could manage another series on FGW, and a second series might not be quite as good. Perhaps they should do another TOC instead?

I'd like to see one about, say, FCC instead. A very busy London service with all the problems that go with it. Rather like watching the shows about the tube.

With so much work going on in the run up to the TSGN franchise, there would be scope to talk about the infrastructure upgrades and perhaps explain to the general public (in simple terms) what is actually needed to improve services, and that it's more than just building new trains.

Still a documentary for Joe Public, but one that would really be of interest to the millions of commuters.

Considering the amount of stick from commuters in and around London that FCC get, I suspect it would be quite a hit, as a lot of people would tune in to see what really happens behind the scenes at a company that many people cannot stand. It would show them what sort of challenges FCC really do face!

A couple of episodes ago a gentleman and his wife were travelling together and he was using a GPS to see the speeds of the run.
It was a yellow GPS, would this be the Garmin eTrex?

I shouldn't mind buying one of these GPS handhelds, is there a cheaper GPS than the eTrex which I could use to see train speeds?
I have had a look on ebay but some of the units don't look too good a condition.
Any help or tips welcomed. TIA
ps: I don't want to spend too much as I know that I won't use it that much. :)

If you have a smartphone with built-in GPS, there are a number of free apps around that will do the trick.

I doubt it's because of that. If legal proceedings were ongoing against the gentleman I'd have hoped they would have been sensible enough not to show it in the first place.

Sensible? It's the law - Contempt of Court Act says that you can't publish anything which unfairly prejudice a jury.

Indeed, but that doesn't actually stop potentially prejudicial publication very well, just punishes those who do publish such material.

My thinking was that the decision to start legal proceedings might not have been taken until after the relevant episode was first shown...

Anyhow, looks like it was nothing to do with legal issues, just a foul-up on the on-demand front - some episodes were mis-labelled or in the wrong order. Looks like they may have sorted it out now.

If you've been watching this on-demand you might want to review the descriptions of the available episodes to see if this issue has caused you to miss one or more.

Private charter trains?

Wonder how many trains were like that, and those celebrities spotted in first class had been invited along for the ride?

Definitely makes me think that dodgy bloke at King's Cross was all a set up, although not just an extra but a paid actor acting to a script (written by someone who was about as aware of reality as an EastEnders script writer).

They've definitely used extras in the shows and staged it! Although this looks like it's just for the intro. Clicky clicky

Must just be for stock footage and the intro, only watched the first bit of that video(even worse than the actual show!) but it was filmed at Doncaster...which didn't exist in the world of the documentary.

Looks like Sky are repeating this daily from Monday with episode 1. 7am so you may wish to series link it.

If anyone wants to know what happened to Liam, he was spotted at York station today by a forum member:

I found series was slow, and over dependent on personal stories rather than telling us about the railway and it's operations. I deleted the last 3 episodes as I became bored with stories of people despatching trains, pushing trolleys etc.

LOL! I spotted him on the platform as we pulled in so went to the door, called him over and said I'd seen him on the programme and shook his hand. He thanked me and wished me good luck for the match. He seems nice enough. I've got two East Coast trips to Newcastle booked over the next three weeks so I'll be on the lookout for Julie (at York) or Claire and Pam (at Newcastle) as well!

What an odd effect a broadcast appearance on TV can have. These people are on platforms dispatching trains almost every day of the year and doing so without comment. As it happens, I saw one of them in the supermarket today, but somehow still don't feel the need to tell everyone on here what was said, nor who they were.

Who cares - we're all just doing what we do.

Fair enough. I was probably just caught up in the novelty of the series having been on recently.

but not helped by the company sending out invites to "party with the stars" etc when I had presumed we were all colleagues, there again I haven't found the need to get an agent either!

Hahah, I saw loads of members of staff featured in the BBC series. TPE have a series of useless youtube videos (such as) and I've seen some of the staff from there too. Not that I've spoken to them more or less than I would have otherwise but meh. It happens remarkably often... The thing that's really weird is, when a member of staff recognises you after seeing you once before.
