I had 3 left over from about 5 years ago - one wouldn't work in the machine at Paris Nord, one did work, one remains un-tested... There was a manual ticket check at Montparnasse using little hand machines capable of checking validity of the paper ticket.

I haven't read everything here but just to say I bought a carnet of billets classiques from the buffet car on Eurostar the weekend before last. Apologies if someone has already mentioned they are still available via there.

The Eurostar buffet was advertising that they had them last week but on asking, I was told that they no longer sold them.

They haven’t been issued to resellers for some months now but individual outlets, or in this case trains, may still have stock. The tickets do not expire (and any RATP ticket office will replace tickets that become demagnetized assuming they are legible).

A bit off topic maybe, but during the Olympic Games normal Navigo and presumably card tickets will not be valid. Special T+ tickets will be 4 Euros (more or less double the usual price) and other options all more than usual prices will apply. Only residents with annual passes etc. will be unaffected. Some details are in this article Edit: Incorrect information - please see comments below

I don’t believe this is correct. There will be a price increase for tickets purchased during the period, but tickets purchased prior to the 20th of July will be valid as normal.

Managed to get two paper carnets for €21 each on the 10.31 Eurostar out of London this morning - more expensive than €17.35 + €2 for Navigo Easy so depends on if you already have a card and if you're pushed for time.

So basically it's still worth trying and incrementally more so the closer to the cafe bar your seat is!

Where is the best place to get a Navigo Easy on arrival at GdN? Is the entrance to Line 4 still always super busy? Can you use a machine or do you need to use a window?

Other people have recommended going to Magenta which is linked to GdN metro along the underground passage and is apparently a lot less busy.

If you have an suitable phone you may be able to download the Ile de France mobilites app (google "idf mobilités app"). On this you can buy tickets with no need to buy a Navigo card and can touch in with your phone. You can also add a passport photo electronically if you want to use week passes, etc.

There now seems to be an Apple version as well - previously only an Android app was available. These apps are or were a bit fussy in that they only worked with certain phones. The app is also very good for planning journeys.

Thanks. The iOS version is available but the notes say that you still need a physical card in order to recharge with your phone.

That makes sense. Apple were wanting to take a percentage of anything bought on the app, which they were not willing to accept. This was originally given as the reason not to develop an Apple app.

Does anybody know whether a carnet of 10 tickets t+ on a mobile phone expires, and if so, after how much time? (The paper tickets don't expire.)

And also if you lose your phone and replace it with a different model, will the carnet still be retrievable?
I've now bought a carnet on my phone and they warn you not to delete the "My Navigo Tickets" app since you can then loose all your tickets. So they're stored on the phone itself, which probably means you loose them when you loose your phone.

Thank you. I prefer the previous way where you’d find a couple of unused tickets in your suitcase for next time!

Is it no longer possible to buy a single metro ticket for a cross-Paris journey? I only need one on Tuesday to get from Gare de Lyon to Nord.

I would have hoped PAYG could have been introduced wth the scraping of cardboard tickets.

But I relent that it basically can't happen because there are no concepts of tapping out in the Metro (some have, but it's mostly for connecting RER services, RER is different) and adding exit barriers at every single station would cost a ton of €€.

And the thing between the authority and Apple about mobile tickets (Apple wants to make the authority pay a fee to Apple per individual validation for mobile tickets loaded on iPhone, which the authority absolutely do not want) do not want (this is why mobile tickets can't be loaded on iPhones) doesn't really help. Confusing once, confusing for ever I guess.

But according to a post upthread you can't buy tickets online with an iphone only load them via bluetooth from a physical Navigo card. Are we sure that Apple want to charge for each validation rather than for sales?

At the beginning of the m-ticket service on Android (circa. 2018-2019) the reporting were of the former for Apple, now with the introduction of it, I have no idea how Apple/IDFM got to an agreement.

That post is now out of date. You can now add and top up a virtual Navigo card that lives entirely inside the Apple Wallet app on your iPhone. No need for either the physical card or even the IdF Mobilities app.

As regards cost, presumably it’s something like

Cost of running physical Navigo cards, involving creating paper cards, ticket office staff as they can’t be issued from machines etc > whatever payment Apple might charge
