Just seen some news of an engine fire on 68013, currently sat on the down Dorridge at Budbrooke Junction. Driver has reported an explosion and fire in the engine room.

The source of this information was from SE Facebook gen group.

On balance, probably good this happened with such low passenger numbers.

How long can onboard batteries in mk.5a keep hotel power running?

Struggling to see how this is relevant, do you mean mk3? It depends, dont know what generator the DVT has, so it might not be entirely dependent on the 68 in this case

I've seen chatter that 68015 was sent to rescue but that has failed too. Might be Chinese whispers however...
A friend has sent me a screenshot of www.railcam.uk which appears to show 68013, 66779, and 68015 all under the allocations heading. All listed there by different people. It also says 68015 has failed.

Believe 5Z99 due to be underway shortly back to Wembley LMD after further checks made.
Must have confidence as 1R39 has just been released past Banbury, so failed unit shouldn't be there much longer.

Seems the info surrounding 66779 was wibble. It was never sent to rescue as 68015 hadn't failed.

68015 now taking the whole consist to Wembley left Warwick at 1557

That's what I've heard. Why 66779 came up, therefore, is a mystery to me!

Odd as its showing as being at Longport!
Ha!

It's 66 789 confirmed as hauling 68 013, 68 015 and the carriages to Wembley.
Ooh - the plot thickens. I was under the impression that it was just the 68s?

-Peter

EDIT: RealTime Trains is currently showing 66789 as being on https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H08452/2021-02-03/detailed (6M59 1402 Scunthorpe Roxby Gullet Gb to Collyhurst Street Gbrf), so not sure what's happening there. I understand RTT may be wrong.

Chap called Alan and Chris, but if somebody has seen it pass railcam as tnt with no 66, then obviously it is now confirmed as having no 66, unless they somehow missed the 66 on the cam,

Maybe the 66 is invisible

Live rail record under 5z99 1600 Warwick to Wembley under members sightings correctly shows 68015 and 68013. No mention of 66. 66 is most likely up north on its booked job. Just a wind up in my opinion. Rumour mill.

Slightly off topic and im not sure what the actual restrictions are around the depot, but according to this recent Facebook post, 66s are barred from wembley LMD anyway,

(Although the 56s doing the recent wembley to Bristol are co-co so maybe it's just inside the LMD sheds they can't go )

60s and 50008 have done that run as well fairly recently.

The Chiltern DVTs do have an ETS generator, but don't know whether they are used any more - they were put in to avoid having the 67s idling and annoying neighbours, but the noise from a 68 is less intrusive as it's lower pitched.

Stood next to a DVT at Leamington 18 months ago or so and the DVT gen set certainly sounded like it was still being used

Yeah, sorry, I must have been completely of my rocker when I said that.... DVTs have a generator on Chiltern.... I already know that.

Sorry mate.

The 68’s are still not exactly ‘refined’ when it comes to noise output, particularly when providing ETS!

Almost none of the DVT ETS gen sets work for various reasons. I think only one now works!!

So i reckon it might have been an Alternator failure or a Traction Motor Flashover, (that caused the engine fire) that's just a guess though.
