I would want one in my backyard. Then when it came to be built I could change my mind and picket the site with a placard saying 'Not In My Backyard.'

At my current address, I'm not sure anywhere could be any more convenient than the existing station at Batley... Could just do with a more frequent service! On that basis, I'd just like a personal cable-car link from the entrance to my apartment block to the station! Other than that, reopening the Clayton West branch as far as Skelmanthorpe would be handy for when I'm cat-sitting!

I don't need one - I already have adobe at the foot of an entrance to one :P It just needs more trains stopping!

Me: about 1.5 miles or so from Lostock Station towards Bolton at the bottom end of Overdale Drive!

If anyone knows the area I don't know whether there were plans to build a station to serve the new middle-class commuting estate "Ladybridge" which could have been on Ladybridge Lane, but Lostock's pretty near so little point.
But I wouldn't mind my own little halt exactly where I said!!

Yours??

I would reopen the old Bolton & Leigh line, especially Rumworth & Daubhill Station, so I could catch the train from there to Great Moor Street. That would mean a 2 minute walk to R & D, and a 1 minute walk to my work. Would beat the bus and car hands down.

I remember - just - trains crossing that junction. With St Helens Road and Derby St. being chocker most hours of the day, what a help it would be to have at least a tram line Bolton/Daubhill/Chequerbent following the old railway and it could possibly connect to the rail at Hag Fold connecting to Victoria.

Much of the old line is unuseable now through housing - building over the line was an opportunity lost.

Instead of a station could I have an extension of the Vic line so it goes to where I work negating the need to change?

Bradwell, part way between Milton Keynes Central and Wolverton, by the old footbridge, would be best for me!

Mine would require the direct line from Mexborough to Barnsley being relaid, but would basically involve a station being built just up the road from where I work. I'd let other people use it though, maybe for a small fee (which would hopefully work out to about the same value as my season ticket ... ) :)

A few ideas from me, from places I or family live or have lived, or areas I'm just familiar with. Some are more off-the-wall than others ;)

Swansea area:

  • A rear entrance to Swansea (High Street) station to serve the new student accommodation (and The Strand). I don't know how easy it is to get to the station entrance via the NCP car park, but can't imagine it's too easy.
  • I've often thought of the convenience of having a station at Cwmbwrla (near the roundabout), on the line towards Gowerton from Swansea. I realise it's too close to the city centre though, with lots-and-lots of buses going past every hour, all of which go via the station anyway.
  • My real fantasy in this area would be a Swansea-Swansea Circular service, via the SWML, Swansea District Line then returning via the West Wales Line.
Services would call at all stops from Swansea to either Baglan or Port Talbot (not sure where the crossovers are).
Reverse then run via the Swansea District Line, with stations opened at Llandarcy (my employer is due to move there soon, and buses are awful), Llansamlet Low Level (or Llansamlet Interchange for faster services to Swansea), Morriston, Forest Village and Pontarddulais Parkway. It'd call at Llangennech, Bynea and Llanelli where services would reverse calling finally at Gowerton then Swansea.
Trains would run in both directions, half-hourly.
For bonus insanity points, run as a tram-train, connecting into the Swansea Tram, replacing the existing ftr Metro route.
Nottingham area:

  • Station reopened at Stapleford and Sandiacre, with regular services run via the Erewash Valley Line. I'd probably also want Trent Junction station reopened, with all services through the area calling. I have no idea what services you could justify sending that way (avoiding both Nottingham and Derby), so I realise it really will never happen! ;)
  • In a similar vein, services which currently run between Chesterfield and Nottingham branching off at Trowell, I think there should be a station at either Stapleford North/Wollaton (Coventry Lane) or Bilborough, if not both. My parents' house is a stone's throw from Coventry Lane, and it's really annoying that it takes me at least an hour to get from the line there back home (longer if I don't make a connection in the evening).
Chesterfield area:

  • An extra station at Whittington Moor (Chesterfield North), connecting into local buses. When I lived in this area, it always annoyed me how difficult it was to get to/from Chesterfield station. If I was travelling in the right direction (at the right times) I often found it easier to get the X17 to Sheffield and connect into the railway network there.
