Hi everyone,

I'll try and keep it short and any advice would be greatly appreciated. A year or so ago I was stopped at Manchester Piccadilly as I bought my ticket after I left the train and I in fact bought an incorrect ticket for a shorter distance. Not that I have to convince anyone but this was a genuinely honest mistake, I was drunk, in a rush and chatting with friends at the time and long story short ended up receiving a fixed penalty notice after providing my side of events in response to their letter.

My question is, will this have been recorded on the Police National Computer (PNC)? My dealings were between Northern Rail, IRCAS and i'm guessing representatives of their respective revenue protection officers. I am just unsure whether this will have been flagged on the PNC. I know the PNC is for recordable/non recordable offences and information issued and taken by the police/courts, but my understanding is that private companies such as NR are able to issue data to third parties who can then inform the police etc? If anyone has knowledge of this area they can share it would be greatly appreciated. I have recently requested access to the PNC via a SAR so will know soon enough but thought I would see if anybody has any experience whilst I wait :D

P.s - Like many others on here I read this forum worried sick when it first happened so I don't want to be rude but any and all judgment is politely declined! This was a first, and will be the last time of doing so and was contrary to the horrendous reasoning, a genuine mistake!

It you paid the £80 penalty notice then it will not involve the PNC.

As above this will definitely not involve the PNC. It won't show up in any searches and you won't have a conviction for it.

Hi posters, thank you for your replies. I did pay immediately as soon as I received the notice. I was just concerned because I thought Fixed Penalty Notices were handled by Northern Rail's prosecution department and therefore kept some kind of record other than their own e.g. Kept the courts informed. I appreciate your replies and thanks for getting back to me so soon! :)

Northern will have a record themselves, but that has nothing to do with the official justice system.

It might influence their decision on what course of action to take should you be caught again, but other than that, you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, I appreciate that. And it definitely won't be happening again after all the stress of last time. Well thank you for clearing up my query!

Apply for subject access to your local police station and they have to tell you everything recorded on the PNC. It costs £10 you fill a form in and send it to them with the cheque and they have to reply in a set time its something like 40 days. I have done it.

I have done this already and waiting, thanks. Is there a reason you suggested this however? Do you think it would show?

I can't speak for the above member as to why they've suggested it but I can only echo what has been said previously. If the matter was concluded with the £80 penalty notice then it will not show on the PNC as it was resolved between yourself and Northern with no recourse to the court system.

I suggested this because you said you wanted to know if the matter was recorded on the PNC.The only way you will know is if you ask the police via subject access. Or have I not understood what you want to know?

Hi Falcon,

Yes, that is great, thank you. I had already requested the PNC so was just seeing if anybody had any advice beforehand. I appreciate all responses!

I believe you simply paid an out of court settlement. Northern have their own name for it but that doesn't change the reality.

Hey guys, sorry to drag up an old thread but I wanted to follow up with this in case anybody else gives a similar google search and has the same question. To reaffirm, the above posters were absolutely spot on. I received my PNC back and it came back as a 'no trace' i.e there is no information held regarding this or anything else.

Hope somebody else finds this information helpful. Cheers for everyone's help!

Thanks for confirming that.
