For me -

The wonderful NSE 3-class hybrid DMU that was L408. I had it a few times from Oxford to/from Didcot or Reading. Railcar's super site has a photo of it.

I always chose the 104 car; and I opened all its windows, to maximise the BRCW noise...

My favourite individual train is the one that gets me to where I'm going!

45058, first train I ever had a drive on back in 1985.

Any Romanian built class 56, great loco's to drive with an awesome sound at full whack, but the BREL built ones, while more user friendly for the Driver, took longer to power up.

43089, last Valenta fitted power car on the MML.

43061, named "The Fearless Foxes" after my team, and managed to drive it despite it spending most of it's time on hire to LNER.

180113, An absolute flying machine that never let me down. Shame my last 180 drive wasn't on it as it clouted a moo cow the previous week, although I did get my second favorite, 109.

180110 - it was my son’s first and last 180. The 180s are his absolute favourite train; so 110 is very pertinent.

I don’t know about favourite as I think I had odd locos and units (Hymeks (7029?), 33s and Tadpoles) when I was young, but none for years. My least favourite would be the 47 (probably 47/4) that failed with the brakes jammed hard on outside the box around 03.30 on a Sunday morning, just as I was about to close and go home to get a good sleep before coming back at 18.00. They couldn’t get anybody out to relieve me so I was stuck there until the day man came in at 08.30. Then it was an hour to get home, sleep and up again at 16.00. And then it was an 06.00 to 14.00 turnaround the following day.

47822, as that's the one I had the most miles for haulage off, spent a decade chasing it around. Sadly 'bodysnatched' to 57305 now.

I'm not much one for noting numbers, but a couple seemed to turn up on my trains often enough that I noticed.

In the late '90s or early '00s I went on quite a number of railtours, on which 47 832 appeared regularly. It still seems to be operational with West Coast.

More recently, on TfW in south Wales or on the Heart of Wales, I've often seen or caught 153 303. Of course as the 153 fleet gets smaller, the remaining examples are likely to be seen more often on their remaining routes. As a TfW owned unit, presumably it'll be around for a few years yet.

Ah yes, quite possibly the most repainted class 47, certainly in the past twenty years:

BR Two-tone green
BR Blue
Intercity Executive
BR Mainline
Intercity Swallow
FGW Green & Gold
FM Rail Black
Victa Westlink Rail Black & Silver
DRS/Stobart Rail Blue
DRS Compass Blue
Northern Belle Umber/Cream
West Coast Railways Maroon

153323 for me. I have some good memories on that train, and the engine sounds great getting up to speed. Another one would b 172338, my favourite 172 by far

166207 from when I had that a few times in the early 90's up the Lickey to Birmingham New Street. Not sure why 166s used to turn up on one of the morning services, or whether I was in fact dreaming it, but I'm sure I also had 166205 on one occasion.

221122 (Doctor Who). I'm not a Doctor Who fan, but there was a period about 15 years ago when this set seemed to turn up for every trip I went on, sometimes also turning up on the return journey to Birmingham later in the day.

483009 - I always loved the 483s on the Island Line, and that was my favourite of them

180110 is the EMR 180 I didn’t get, although I had it several times for sight.

There are classes I like but I can’t think of any individual units that I prefer over others in the class. I will have fond memories of 455835 and 313201 as they are the only examples of each class that I’ve had for haulage, but that’s about it.

Maybe 68089. When I was very young, Mum & Dad took my brother and myself to Seahouses. Kings Cross,Newcastle,Chathill,Seahouses.
And I think that 68089 was in use from Chathill to Seahouses. The line closed when I was about 6. We used to call it the Ribby Choo. What fun.
And I do remember waiting at Chathill to go back to Newcastle when Cock O' The North turned up -60501.

55003 Meld - felt like I saw it every time I visited York or Kings Cross. It even came through Preston on an excursion to Blackpool in the early 80’s I seem to recall.
47444 always seemed to be around preston from what I remember.

Somewhere between Waverley and Queen Street.
66006 was the first 66 I saw, pretty fresh off the boat, back when I was a kid. I've never seen it since. Even at the time I knew it didn't have the characteristic noise of the 37s that were commonly passing through.

37403 is my favourite 37 at the moment. I was on the SRPS rail tour this year where it had to tackle Slochd single handed and it sounded glorious!

403 has also been a favourite of mine ever since I encountered it working the Royal Scotsman through a rainy Glenfinnan while wearing its "celebrity" BR Green livery sometime in the mid nineties. More recently I seem to recall some entertaining journeys behind it on Cumbrian Coast passenger services.

A particular favourite loco of mine is/was 87031 'Hal o' the Wynd': One of the first 87s I ever saw, and the name seemed so ethereal to a young boy with much yet to learn of the history behind the names applied to the class.

142025 was the first train I ever rode on, and the one that gave me the bug! Coincidentally she was also the first train I ever took a picture of years later (one of these days I'll get round to putting her as my profile picture!), and she was absolutely awesome to ride on too!

I like to have a favourite that's still in service too though, and I'm quite fond of the 185s as they're pretty awesome DMUs and I see them day in day out on my local line. I remember the first time I saw one under power and thinking they were pretty special. It was 185122 on test/training duties, so it's my favourite still in service train.

I was fond of the little batch of five Northern Spirit liveried 142s: They were also noteworthy beforehand for being the last units of the class still carrying their original Provincial liveries.
