The un-refurbished B7TLs and B9TLs are looking rough internally.
32302 scrapped, 37208 in service, 43864 in service, 43872 in service, 66735 withdrawn, 69019 in the scrap line, 69111 scrappedCan anyome give the current status for 32302 / 37208 / 43864 / 43872 / 66735 / 69019 / and 69111 please.
Dumbarton’s 1 Deckers have been a mixed bag, some of the newer refurbished paintwork buses look fine, while others have old fading paintwork, with some being so bad, you can see the old Barbie Livery on some parts. Also, 37223 has it’s metal thing on the side (IDK what it’s called, there’s a photo of one seen on a 61 Gemini attached to this message) missing (it’s still missing to this day), and before it’s repaint, look really beaten and battered.Another quality repair by First Glasgow on a 1 branded decker unsure of the fleet number
They should refurb those B9TLs like they did with the ones on the 61. You can really tell the difference. I would like to see some E400s head over on to the 1 peak services.Dumbarton’s 1 Deckers have been a mixed bag, some of the newer refurbished paintwork buses look fine, while others have old fading paintwork, with some being so bad, you can see the old Barbie Livery on some parts. They're there to protect the upper deck from tree strikes.Dumbarton’s 1 Deckers have been a mixed bag, some of the newer refurbished paintwork buses look fine, while others have old fading paintwork, with some being so bad, you can see the old Barbie Livery on some parts. No one at the company cares about his kinda of thing, it can be easily found on many newer vehicles as wellAnother quality repair by First Glasgow on a 1 branded decker unsure of the fleet number
Not the worst repair I've seen. I remember years ago spotting a stop bell on the ceiling of a Leyland Olympian which i had never noticed on them before. When I pressed it it didn't work. Reported it to the back gate inspector who contacted engineering only to be told it was good to go. Turned out there was a hole in the roof and this had been stuck on to cover it. Absolutely abysmal.Another quality repair by First Glasgow on a 1 branded decker unsure of the fleet number
I'm not exactly a staunch defender of First, but I will give a little sympathy to the staff here.No one at the company cares about his kinda of thing, it can be easily found on many newer vehicles as well
The sad reality is too that £12 an hour is better off than a lot of people in society so if the hours and conditions were so much better it would be a fairly attractive job and we wouldn't have driver shortages etc other than Covid related onesI'm not exactly a staunch defender of First, but I will give a little sympathy to the staff here.
Engineering will only have the tools, skills and budgets to work with that they are given and I have no doubt that the two metrics they'll be measured by will be their ability to keep vehicles on the road and not spending money.
I doubt one person would look at that job with pride, but at £12 odd an hour you probably just care about your boss not shouting at you.
I'm not excusing First here, this is a beautiful example of privatisation at it's worst. Profit profit profit, the rest be damned.
that “metal thing” is a tree guard, and its a pretty self explanatory object. The point of such a thing as a tree guard or any other thing which its whole purpose is protecting something such as a phone case, is there to take the damage so whatever its protecting doesn’t. 37223s tree guard has obviously been dented or broken by a tree and hasn’t been replaced sinceDumbarton’s 1 Deckers have been a mixed bag, some of the newer refurbished paintwork buses look fine, while others have old fading paintwork, with some being so bad, you can see the old Barbie Livery on some parts. Realistically, it would likely not cost much more to fix it properly with the correct materials and the correct spray to put over it.Another quality repair by First Glasgow on a 1 branded decker unsure of the fleet number
Buses fresh out the box are just as prone to bumps and crashes as ones that are 15 years oldSaw one of the unbranded 22 plate electric deckers with damaged panels near the nearside rear wheel last week as well.
Wow, did that really happen? Not the worst repair I've seen. I remember years ago spotting a stop bell on the ceiling of a Leyland Olympian which i had never noticed on them before. Thank you for helping me know what it’s called, I know not all Double-Deckers have one, but when a Gemini doesn’t have one, it looks really weird.that “metal thing” is a tree guard, and its a pretty self explanatory object. correctNot all Gemini’s had them. The ones Lothian in Edinburgh have don’t for example apart from the ex London ones (I think).
One was broke down yesterday at the M80/M8 merge.33104 has broken down in Buchanan bus station in the middle stands area and currently has a wrecker and a fitter in attendance
Thanks for all the replies. Thomas32302 scrapped, 37208 in service, 43864 in service, 43872 in service, 66735 withdrawn, 69019 in the scrap line, 69111 scrapped
Yeah I have seen a few broken down first buses the last few days to be honestOne was broke down yesterday at the M80/M8 merge.
I know that, but I wonder what bus is using it.Probably spare ticket machine.
What’s the deal with the Hybrids? I’d have thought now would be a better time than any to get them back out again.I know that, but I wonder what bus is using it.
Speaking of buses, is 39101 (one of the E400 Hybrids) back in service, or is another bus using it’s ticket machine? Cause it appears to have made a run on the 6A two days ago : https://bustimes.org/vehicles/174372
The batteries are knackeredWhat’s the deal with the Hybrids? I’d have thought now would be a better time than any to get them back out again.
I assume finding a new battery for a model of bus no longer manufactured may be difficult? The batteries are knackered
Shouldn't be tbh as batteries tend to be quite modular and while that configuration might not be in active production it can still be madeI assume finding a new battery for a model of bus no longer manufactured may be difficult?
Begs the question as to why they’ve been out of service so long thenShouldn't be tbh as batteries tend to be quite modular and while that configuration might not be in active production it can still be made
I heard they were getting converted to diesel but that was well over a year ago now at least. Someone on here said they were stored at back of Scotstoun depot and they haven’t been touched. They’d be as well scrapping them if they weren’t going to do anything with them. Not sure about these, replacement batteries for the current electric buses cost about £100,000.
