All starts tonight. I expect a tight game but Germany will triumph.

Scotland have a good midfield and an OK defence but I just don't see where the goals are coming from.

I think Germany have been underestimated and will make the SF at the very least.
I’m English so I want England to win the tournament which by the way I think they will. However I still want Scotland to do well. A long shot I know but I hope they beat Germany tonight.

Perfectly I would like to see England vs Scotland in the knockout stages with an England win.

I think England with a fully fit and in form Stones, Maguire and Shaw would have an excellent chance.
Sadly that isn't the case so I genuinely believe that anything beyond the QF would be a decent return.

As a ESTC member and match going fan ( I go to Germany next week) I can assure you that you are in a minority. I can't think of anything worse.

I don't think England will miss Maguire that much, as they have Lewis Dunk (I think he's just as good) in the squad.

Seriously?

Dunk wouldn't be anywhere near the England squad for me, slow, both in mind and foot, poor on the ball, goes to ground far too easily.

Not international standard

It is not going well for Scotland, 3-0 down at half time & with Porteous sent off as well.

Awful from Scotland. Laughable. Clueless. Fantastic!

Germany strolling. Never pressed or pressured. Hardly broken sweat. They must have been laughing themselves horse at half time at how easy it is for them.

I described the Scottish team as bang average before kick off. They aren't even that good!

I expected more from Scotland but you can’t really judge Germany on that performance because Scotland were so poor.

Looking forward to the Spain v Croatia game today, that should be a high quality game. I watched Croatia beat Portugal last weekend and whilst you shouldn't read too much into friendlies they played very well.

It was only a few years ago I found out the real team name for Scotland wasn’t ’Scotland Nil’
:) :)
At least they didn’t end up ‘Scotland Nil’ although they did need a bit of German help with that.

After just one game difficult to judge how good Germany are as Scotland didn’t really provide any meaningful opposition. It’s easy to look good when the opposition is poor. However Germany did take their goals well (apart from the penalty, which if the goalkeeper had stood still he’d have saved it. I like to see penalties blasted in).

There’s still two more games for Scotland to rescue their Euro’s, but they’ll need to up their game and hope Switzerland & Hungary forget theirs.

In reality it's a three-team group and one will go through; as I expect Germany to thump the other two; but the annoying thing is Scotland have a -4 goal-difference which will be hard to make up.

The presenter last night pointed out the first tie-breaker in the group stage is head-to-head rather than goal difference. So good results against the other two teams and the goal difference will hopefully be irrelevant.

Do some of the third-placed teams go through?

Millwall's goalkeeper, Montenegro international Matija Sarkic, has passed away at the age of 26.

Yes. There are 6 groups, so group winners and runners-up plus the 4 best third places.
Thanks, Third place in group determined by head-to-head, then GD, then points with other groups then GD.
We should have a Duckworth-Lewis method for football!!

A minimum of three goals per game in Euro 2024, with 2.75 games played so far...

England v Serbia tomorrow is nailed-on to be 0 - 0.

We're at an average of 3.5 goals per game now, and only minutes into the 4th match!

Today’s results are:
Hungary 1 - Switzerland 3.
Spain 3 - Croatia 0. Lamine Yamal became the youngest ever player at a European Championships aged 16 & set up Spain’s 3rd goal with a great cross in an excellent display.
Italy 2 - Albania 1. Albania scored the fastest ever goal at a European Championships after 23 seconds.

Hi guys first of all apologies for this post but does anyone know of any rail companies i can contact with our Opportunites regarding possible football club sponsorship. Our club Caledonian Locomotives FC based in Springburn, Glasgow and named after the St Rollox Works known as "The Caley" have lost 3 large sponsors from last season and i'm having no luck in attracting new/any companies onboard. We had Optical Express as home kit sponsors last year as the owner of them owns the Caledonian Railyard but he isn't renewing and i'm doubtful that Gibson Engineering who are running the place just now would have the funds to do so as they are just into the place. A gofundme started by one of the other committee guys 2 weeks ago hasn't really taken off either, i have approached companies like Russell Logistics, Network Rail, Volker Rail and even Locomotive Services group without even a reply back. We are a small club but a succesful one and in our short 13 year history spent 3 years in the top league playing your Auchinleck Talbots, Darvels, Polloks etc on a shoestring budget. The club was renamed to the Loco's last year due to our old clubs community chairman trademarking the club name and badge behind our backs and threatening with us being sued if we used it. We are trying really hard to build back up what we had and have even taken on a Development team for next season, just need to sort ourselves out now. Thanks for reading and if your interested in seeing more of the club we have a twitter page and Facebook group.

Well, I wasn't far off.

The three points are what matters, but Southgateball isn't an exciting watch. A team with the likes of Bellingham and Foden in it shouldn't be so snooze-inducing surely?
If we'd won 5-4 it would be all about how poor our defence is. We won, and that's all that's important for the tournament.

Cesc Fabregas is a fantastic pundit. Detailed, insightful analysis of why England struggled in the second half and a marked contrast to Ferdinand and Richards banging on about passion and wanting it more.

Ferdinand’s incomprehensible response to how well spoken Bellingham was in his post-match interview was both hilarious and an utter embarrassment. God knows why the BBC employ him

Got the job done. Impressed with Geuhi. Thought Rice was brilliant, Saka in the first half as well was brilliant. And Bellingham by far the best player on the pitch, he's got that arrogance that all the great players have as well. What a player he is, always have a chance with him in the team.

Foden was poor.

But I was most dissapointed with Pickford (or Southgate), why did we keep kicking the ball long and giving Serbia back the ball. Kane was loosing most of his duels. If we had held onto it more, we wouldn't have let them back into the game as much.

From an England point of view it was a win, even though a painful watch at times (well much of the time actually). Having said that it was a more interesting game than seeing Germany play Scotland.

I think I was more disappointed with Kane, as he said himself after the game his job was to be that target man for Pickford's clearances, holding the ball up to allow others to run on. Serbia were pressing very high, especially in the second half and balls out to the defence could easily lead to errors as we saw in the first. And for what it's worth I thought Serbia played their tactics very well, they could certainly be in with a shot of progression.
